'The Trees sound interesting. Can you describe their music a bit more?'
Fairport Convention invented rock-folk music. Liege and Lief is considered their best album, but Unhalfbricking is better - it has A Sailors Life, pure genious. Also, a wonderful version of Dylan's Percy's Song.
Tress invented PROGRESSIVE folk-rock music. Their version of Streets of Derry is astonishing. The two guitars talking to each other and then the drums climaxing - fantastic. Poly on the Shore climaxes with an amazing guitar solo.

Not so fast...can you recommend any recordings by the Man of Constant Sorrow Guy and the Dobro Guy?
It also has a couple of song written by a buddy of mine, a genius
type I knew in LA decades ago, Mark Simos, great song writer and
fiddler in his own right. Another group you might check out is
Frieda Epstien and Acoustic attitude, Infrappingcredible cd.
Frieda is (was actually, she was killed in a bizarre auto accident a
couple of years ago) a grandmaster vocalist and virtuosic fiddler
who was a great teacher of both voice and fiddle. She was
John McCutcheons fiddle teacher, you should check him out also.
The Epstein recording was done in an interesting way, I forget the
name of the technique but they use two mikes on a fake head where
the ears go and thats the only mikes used and the did it live in a
theater setting, not in front of an audience but in this theater just for
the acoustics of it. I mention those two cd's because on most cd's
you find a couple of keepers (like what you would like to sift down
to your Ipod) and the rest so-so. These two cd's are full of
absolute keepers, almost nothing is less than stellar. Highly
recommended. The Freida Epstien cd is a memorial re-release
after her death and is the only reason I ever heard of her.
The original was done in 1993. If you like bluegrass you will love
both CD's, no doubt about it.
