In a free society religion has to take criticism like everyone else.
for myself I am posting in support of Russians who are striving (at great cost to themselves) for freedoms I take for granted.
I'll tell you a secret: russian people don't need your support. Because they can estimate the situation by their own, all its pros and cons. They aren't blind, they know well enough that their government isn't ideal, and they also know that their Church is quite a hypocrite. And nevertheless most of them consider it to be a crime and this sentence to be fair, at least not much severe as in any other country (remember the recent case in Finnland, where a professor tried to perform the similar action and now risks to get up to 2 years of prison. So maybe Finnland is also a country where freedom is violated?).
And finally you know I wouldn't like to live in society where everyone count that he can do whatever he wants regardless of other people's opinion (isn't it the violation of their rights?). Ít's called anarchy and not the democracy.
Originally posted by AndaluzIf it happened in St. Paul's, they'd get thrown out. No more. I know this, because I was once thrown out for throwing things from the Whispering Gallery (which I didn't do, but who expects a 60+ beadle to believe a then-16-year-old teenager when he says so?).
I wonder what would say some people if such thing happened in Westminster Abbey or in St. Paul's Cathedral. Would they still continue to dissemble?
If they refused to go, I suspect they might be arrested, bailed, and given a fine. Arrested, kept for trial for months, showcased in a cage, and then sent for two years' Gulag with rape? Never.

Originally posted by AndaluzNo I dont remember the recent case of a Finnish professor getting two years for dancing in a Church, could you post a link, or did you get the story from RT.

"I'll tell you a secret: russian people don't need your support."
So when did the Russian people elect you as their spokesperson.
I decide who gets my support and it wont be the kind of people who imprison somebody for dancing in a church.
You clearly do not believe in free speech, or the right to protest, that's your problem, I'll tell you a secret, everyday more and more of your fellow Russians do think it is a right worth struggling for and it wont be long before you are in the minority.
One day you will no longer be able to fool the Russian people into thinking their enemy is outside Russia's borders. You had better get used to people saying stuff you do not agree with, I am quite happy for you to practice on me.

2) I am Russian, I live here, I've discussed this with my friends, collegues and other people and most of them think the same way, so I assume I can express their opinion too. Or maybe you think they all are agents of KGB?
3) You can't tell the protest from the ordinary hooliganism, no wonder why british hooligans are the most lame-brained in Europe. Normally one protests in the Senate, or if it can't be done, in the streets. But not in churches, hospitals and schools.
4) What is this appeal for? It sounds as if I was the embodiment of all the Evil that happens in Russia. You know what's your problem? The Birtish Empire have collapsed a long time ago, but you brits have still kept this disgusting habbit to poke your nose in the other country's affairs.
Originally posted by AndaluzLasted a lot longer than your pathetic Russian Jack boot based empire though, and opened up the world for trade and cultural exchange, all you and the leadership you still have, managed to do was retard Eastern Europe for fifty years.

And you are still trying to push your smaller neighbors about. do you seriously think a supporter of Putin and his thugs is going to get to preach at people in the real world.
You keep sucking up the Kremlin version of the world, I will keep telling the truth as I see it, and offering my moral support for any Russian who has the guts to stand against you.
You get to censor people at home, but you have no chance here, here we say what we like if people do not like it, too bad, as I said before, I think you and your friends will have to get used to it.
Still waiting for the link to Finnish Professor story.

I lived there for 7 years..there is more to the story than your analysis. How about talking about the issue in the thread instead of sweeping insults about a country or empire?

Originally posted by mochironNo of course it is not really necessary to insult any country, any empire on the other hand, including the Russian, Japanese, or British one is fair game as far as I'm concerned.

It was not me who raised the issue, it was the poster you are defending, who used it as a stereotype of the Brits, rather than argue the impossible position that because I am not Russian I should shut up about a blatant injustice perpetrated on three Russian citizens by their own state.
Our exchange may have been producing more heat than light, but again you let your neighbor of the hook and single me out.
For any offence caused to innocent Russian bystanders who misconstrued my disdain for the Putin regimes treatment of 'Pussy Riot' as anti Russian sentiments per se then I am quite happy to apologise.
However my original post stands and despite the attempts by Andaluz to convince us that the current Russian regime is on a par with Britain or Finland on these matters I'm sure a lot more Russians share my opinion than He would care to admit.
