Queen Elizabeth ll ~ Platinum Jubilee

This weekend the UK and the wider Commonwealth celebrates Her Majesty’s 70th year as Monarch.

Here we have an extra days of National holiday plus the moving of the late May Bank Holiday to make a 4 day long weekend of international, national and local celebrations including street parties, fetes and various pageantry.

The other half and myself have booked accommoda ...[text shortened]... brate with friends and the local townsfolk.

Is anyone else here celebrating this historic event?

She is and has been a remarkable monarch. It says a lot about her that when people anywhere in the world mention "the queen", it is Elizabeth II, and not any other queen (not, for example Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands).

Personally, I think Charles is a dope and a milquetoast. He and whatsername should retire to France, like Edward and whatersname, and never be heard from again.

I think William will make a fine, modern, monarch, and Kate has the stuff to back him up.

Over here I'm just quietly observing that the USA seems to be trying for a record when it comes to mass shootings on Memorial Day weekend.

After such a nice, round number (70 years), I think it would be fine for QE2 to step down and become Queen Emeritus (unless there is some esoteric Babylonian reason for her to hang on for 72 years).

Also, it would probably be a bad idea for The Prince of Wales ever to go for a drive with his mother at the wheel, in case she one day decides it would be best to drive them both off a cliff.
