Exactly 6 months ago I was rated 1730.Today, its 1495. Not spectacular in terms of some others you might say but, the truth is, I haven't changed my style or resigned games en masse. Can anyone suggest a course of action to get me out of this freefall?

I know my ratung is too crap to give people advice, but I'll pass on some that was given me when I posted a similar question - step back, take a short break, do some tactics (CTS) and then come back when you've got back in form. My problem was that I got a coputer so I went chess nuts (instead of just playing at work) and started Blitz and as many other games as I could - I lost what little focus I have and played everything like it was a 5min/0increment game. Anyway - there you go, my penny's worth.

on your graph when you were 1700 you were playing only a few 1600 and 1700 players and many 1200 and 1300 players. now its the other way around. the playing field is different the rating change should be expected.

I feel your pain. Exactly 6 months ago I was rated 1991. Now i am 1987. If I keep freefalling like this I'll might end up under 1500 before I die.

I find I can bear the prospect of someone way better than me suffering a ratings drop with surprising equanimity.

Maybe I'll feel differently should I ever emerge again from the Morlock caves of the 1200s.
