@fmf saidWell I have this now and then that people were"just pulling someones led". I often fail to find the "humour" in that. But as you explaing then fun was to be found elseweher and I probably didn't get it then.
I feel that it is a cheap way to explain embarrassing behaviour
Well, as you say, you just didn't get it. And having admitted that, it's a bit rich of you to claim that the humour - that you didn't get - was "a cheap way to explain embarrassing behavior".
I am not the slightest bit "embarrassed" by my self-deprecating humour and I do not write posts with non-native speakers in mind.
You probably should have "shrugged it off" and left it at that.
@ponderable saidOn page three of that thread you slipped in “the twins”.
Thread 198344
Indeed the "humopur" part wasn't recognised by many (including me, even after rereading I can't find the "humour".
However I shrugged it off, but then I am not a native speaker and have general problems with "pulling oens leg". Normally I feel that it is a cheap way to explain embarrasing ebhaviour (In that case I understood the "humouros", ...[text shortened]... ear with the addendum that it was not the case...but "humourous" would not hav eebn my description).
Was that you getting the humour of Very Rusty, just following his lead or just some embarrassing behaviour?
A few posts latter you were so bent out of shape over not getting FMF’s pulling of another poster’s leg, that you launched a poll asking people to vote if they thought the leg-pullee’s post was clear or unclear; thus proving that you in fact have very little SoH and indicating that your use of “twins” was indeed just you following VR in VR style.
Anyway, that was my take on your contribution in that thread and an exegesis into your inability to describe the earlier exchanges as “humorous”.
[PS I do wonder why your typing goes completely haywire at times, (“eebn”instead of “been” for example) when at other times you write in perfect grammar and spelling.]
@ponderable saidI often fail to find the "humour" in that.

Oh well. So what?
There is absolutely nothing I write on this forum that is intended for you unless it's a direct reply to something you have posted.

As divegeester seems to have suggested, perhaps you should just stick to the Very Rusty-level of humour and ignore the rest.
@ponderable saidSo, then why are you characterizing it as ' a cheap way to explain embarrassing behaviour' "?
As you quite correctly said I didn't get it.
@divegeester saidYes I did use the expression "twins". And somehow I followed VR's lead maybe. Twins is in itself not demeaning. If you feel offended I am open to write an apology.

As stated (and I found the post also in the original thread) I am not getting leg-pulling much and I normally don't find the actions, which are labled thus "humourous" thus you might be right that I have no SoH (sens of Humour).
You can probably gauge my level of emotional involvedness here. I probably now how to write each word, but have problems coordinating my typing (I think I admitted to that fault elsewhere now and then). Rereading helps, but since I type from a German language computer most words are marked anyway (and no I won't switch the spell-checker for each session).
@ponderable saidYou are sounding a bit upset and resentful about what happened.

@ponderable saidAh, your (near) prefect spelling and grammar has suddenly returned.

Interesting.
@ponderable saidThere is no “maybe” about it, and certainly no apology is required to me for your emulation of Very Rusty .. I found your doing so amusing.

My 'request' that the list be extended until it include me who joined 5-6 years later [meaning possibly 10,000's of names on a list] is so preposterous it is clearly self-deprecating.
My satirical suggestion that the whole list be put in quotation marks [so as to avoid an accusation of plagiarism] is just another ridiculous thing to ask for and it is clearly self-deprecating.
@ponderable saidI admire anyone who can speak, read or write in a foreign language, really I do.

No, I’m an just an observer of people and behaviour. I have observed what I suspect is your tactical use of sometimes a whole cascade of really unusual misspells. Usually when you’ve gotten into an exchange you wished you hadn’t.
@ponderable saidYes I did use the expression "twins". And somehow I followed VR's lead maybe.

For someone whose sense of humour can seem, on occasions, to be as dry as a camel's bum - and not "dry" in a good way - I'm not sure adopting Very Rusty's low-grade wretchedly repetitive "funny riffs" and "sense of humour" is the best solution.
[This post is humorous. Your leg is being pulled.]
@ponderable saidTwins is in itself not demeaning.

I don't think it is either. Not in the slightest. But I think people - other than Very Rusty - using it kind of feels like they are demeaning themselves a bit.
@kewpie saidNowadays, I am self-employed. But when I was working for one of the universities here in my city, which I did for many years, I would not have worried about them knowing what I was posting on these forums. Having said that, it never occurred to me to use my 'real name', so to speak, as my username.
Would anyone dare to post anything that they wouldn't say in a job interview?
In the real world I'm careful about making humorous remarks to people who are not close friends. But those friends are fair game for outrageous jokes and comments.
An old acquaintance used to say "if you can't insult your friends, who can you be rude to?" I thought about that and decided he was right. It's customary to be polite to strangers and jokingly offensive to your friends.
It has to be real "jokingly" though, not intentional offence with "only joking" to save face if it's taken as intentional.
This human social behaviour stuff is hard - after 79 years I still don't really get it. 🙃 Still trying though.
