Have you noticed though, that a show from the 60's that was an hour long only had about 6 minutes of commercials, while that same show now will use 15-20 minutes of your time for commercials. Hence, they have to cut out parts of the rerun to get in their extra commercial time.

I hate commercials.

Haven't noticed that cause i wasn't here in the 60's...But that cuts a lot possible good stuff of the shows... 😞
I hate commercials as well, that's why now I don't watch t.v.that much... And all the shows out there pretty much sucks.
Nowadays is more or less Conan O'Brien, The Daily Show, and some documentaries...

I have to mention these two:
- Monty Python's Flying Circus - best comedy and best show ever
- The Twilight Zone - best non-Monty-Python show ever

And now for something completely different, the original point of my post was to mention...

...Space: 1999!!

The most under-rated sci-fi show ever 😏

Monty Python's Flying Circus rules! 🙂 Belgian television re-ran the whole series last year. Now that's television and comedy that will never, never get old! Not even after all those bad knock offs by unimaginative minds in the decades that followed...

Has anyone mentioned The Monkees yet? How about The Smothers Brothers, top rated variety show that got cancelled for being too controversial?

I guess what it all means is that we're spiraling through a dimensional warp in space and can never go back. *sigh*
You can never go back for sure. Here is one nobody will remember:
"Commander Corey, Commander-in-chief of the SPACE PATROL"
A live sci-fi series I used to watch regularly. Of course now with shows like 'Stargate' "Battlestar Galactica", the old stuff is dated. I wonder if any of Space Patrol was recorded for posterity?
I also watched the 'Kukla Fran and Ollie' show, remember the phrase
"Pluck your magic Twanger, Froggie'? When I was a kid I used to have a big horselaugh at that one.

That was the Buster Brown Show. It starred Andy Devine (Jingles on Wild Bill Hickcock) among others, but it was him I remember. I think it may have been renamed Andy's Gang at some point.

better to remember them fondly than to see what rubbish they really were
back then when your brain was a little softer
You're on target there,a while back BBC had been showing "The Prisoner", a show I thought was incredible when I was 15 years old in 1967, I recorded every episode.
They sucked. Bad. Dunno what impressed me so much, I couldn't even watch them all the way through.
