Accept? Accepted. Resize? If the accepted size is stated in the rules, and the picture is only resized if it's above that size, I guess that would be okay, too. Sharpen? I don't see why.

🙂

Yes, resized if it is above the size stated in the rules. Sharpened because you should always apply a touch of sharpening after resizing an image (some edge contrast is lost).

I already have a tool I use myself that resizes and applies slight sharpening to an image in steps of ten percent until it gets to the desired size. Bi-cubic resizing is supposed to obviate the need for doing resizing in steps but I don't believe it 🙂

I am afraid you are (see page 5 for the results). But your comments are still appreciated. And I am glad you liked Spinning Top. 🙂

We will have the Grande Finale of the photo comp in its current form soon, where people can vote for the overall winner of the comp. Don't miss it! It looks like that may not be the end though, so you may get other chances to vote, or even participate. 🙂

I think it might be an idea to keep a record of those who show an interest. Hmmmmmm.

Maybe you should re-calculate the votes Nordles!

Two priorities would be to protect the hosting system from abuse and to protect RHP from spamming posts (e.g. someone decides to use the system as a means to bombard the RHP forums) but other than that, it's not going to kill us if the votes turn out wrong for one round because somebody is being an Aass.

It's not going to kill us, but I'm afraid it would have a negative effect on the competition. It takes quite some time to go through these rounds, many people put a lot of effort in this... it might keep people from participating again if a round gets sabotaged. Moreover, most of the photo comp threads were in good spirit, and I especially appreciate that. I feel the bickering that took place in a few rounds wasn't too bad because there was someone leading this competition, and having the info to do so. It might have been worse without this.

Maybe giving every user a pool of 39 points to hand out as she or he pleases can be used, maybe with a maximum of 10 points? I kinda like having to think carefully how I distribute the points, it makes me look at the pictures much closer.

You're right but I was thinking if that were a worse case scenario. If something irritating did happen then the logs would be available to sort it out.

Even with the current format somebody could sit there creating multiple accounts and voting several times. It would take a pretty sad individual but it could be done.

Definitely get your point about having someone who is seen as person managing the competition like Nordles has so admirably been doing. I am not suggesting we turn this into some mechanical thing but that the donkey work that both Nordles has done and the voters would be reduced significantly.

There would still be an opening thread in which people can post stuff, the organizer who has yet to be named (however, I am offering if there are no objections) would still be responsible for setting dates, extending deadlines, forwarding questions etc much as Nordles does now.

The only difference would be that when you view the images in the voting round, you can vote there and then without all that cutting, pasting and forgetting which image is what. Additionally, you can write a comment there and then which will get posted to the forum or you can choose to just post your comments as we have up until now. I would even propose that if you wish, you could still actually post your votes into the forum too.

Your points pool is an interesting idea, I wonder what other people think.

Sounds great. Please keep us informed for future events! I'll watch out.

Another reason for me to keep on playing chess here 🙂

Sounds good, somehow I got the impression it would be more automatic than this. And I don't want to overestimate the potential for misuse either. I 'm glad to see this will probably go on, I'm looking forward to it.
