I take part in critiqueing groups on another site, and my most recent submission got the following comments: "colours too drab", "colours over saturated and too bright to be natural", and 1 guy even told me that the subject in my shot was both overexposed and underexposed.

I had to laugh. 😀

1st - 10 pts - 15. Piranha

Fantastic image. I really can't say much more about it, I can't really describe why I think this picture really stands out for me.

2nd - 8 pts - 1. A Bright Future!

Great shot, I can image the happy couple being glad with this photograph. A clever interpretation. The lifted foot is literally about movement, but there is the idea of taking a step in life too. I really appreciate this one. Good detail in the veil.

3rd - 6 pts - 2. Almost There

I think this is a very nice interpretation of the topic. It doesn't use the obvious motion blur to suggest movement, but to me this is very much on topic. It's interesting to see that the interpretations of this round differ so much, I can't remember this happening this much in the other rounds.

4th - 5 pts - 12. Merry-Go-Round

I agree with everything that has been said about this picture. Excellent technique, nice framing and it's a very 'happy' image. I rated some images higher than this because of the interpretation of the topic only, this is one of the first times I wish had more points to hand out left.

5th - 4 pts - 21. Unfurly

Lovely colours, sharpness is great and depth of field is perfect. Yet there's something that keeps me from really saying "wow" about the entire image. I say 'wow ' about the quality of the picture, though.

6th - 3 pts - 8. Drip

Good idea, but it's a shame it's not in focus. I think I would have liked a very sharp image of a drop that is about to fall a lot. I wish I would have tought of that before the competition started.

7th - 2 pts - 19. Swing

Again, using a longer shutter time would have been a more obvious way to suggest movement, but this works too for me. This seems shot close to the apex of the swing, so you know this might be the fraction of a second where all movement stops. I see this is not precisely that moment, but it's close enough to me. But I would have liked this image better if the depth of field had been much more narrow.

8th - 1 pt - 17. Second Sight

Interesting experiment. But allthough movement obviously played a role in how this image came to be, the picture itself doesn't say much about movement to me.

Great round, it's a pity the interest seems to have waned. I wonder what's going to give me the stamina to go out and shoot pictures. Thanks Nordlys and Ragnorak for starting and organising this competition, it was great fun.

1st - 10 pts - Bathing - Almost perfect. Love the blurred hand which is calling all the splashing. You should probably clone out the water pipe in the background as it's making the image look sloped a little.
2nd - 8 pts - Hurly
3rd - 6 pts - Merry-Go-Round
4th - 5 pts - Shadow Landing
5th - 4 pts - Sea Dragon
6th - 3 pts - Far Away Fields

1st - 10 pts - 23. Bathing
2nd - 8 pts - 12. Merry-Go-Round
3rd - 6 pts - 11. Will Land On His Shadow
4th - 5 pts - 3. Dance
5th - 4 pts - 1. A Bright Future!
6th - 3 pts - 15. Piranha
7th - 2 pts - 4. Chronology
8th - 1 pt - 18. Reflections on a Slow Motion Morning

Some comments:
23. Bathing - the picture brings a smile to my face every time I look at it. Full of joy and movement. Maybe not so much joy for the parents who have to mop the floor afterwards. 😛

12. Merry-Go-Round - very well done technically, and you can feel the motion

3. Dance - for me, this fits the round perfectly. It has a lot of technical faults, some of which could probably be amended quite easily with some photoshopping, but it's very dynamic. I definitely like the colour version better than the sepia version.

1. A Bright Future! - a nice picture, and it fits the category both literally and allegorically, although I don't get the same feeling of motion as in some other shots.

15. Piranha - would make a nice desktop picture!

Any comments on "Escalators" and "Feet" (both of which are mine)? I had a very hard time deciding which pictures to enter for voting and which to put in the non-voting section. I think maybe "Escalators" should have been in the voting section.

Also, still calling out pawnhandler! And we need some more detectives!

Well, I like "Escalators". Nice lines and an interesting perspective. It looks like it needs a slight rotation to the right though. It makes me want to go and find a place with one non-working escalator so I could pose a single person (it could be a married person though I suppose. Shouldn't make much difference) standing, motionless halfway up and do a long exposure to get the other two "lanes" of people blurred,

Not sure about "Feet". I like the colour and the streaky lines. Perhaps even more blue would be kind of cool.

Thanks for the comments. I was thinking about rotating "Escalators" a bit, but it didn't really work. I was also thinking that it would have been nice to do the same picture with a longer exposure, but I didn't have a tripod or a camera that would have been able to handle that. And of course I didn't have much time because we wanted to see Prague. 🙂

All the voting here on RHP kept me from voting in the municipal and county elections today. 😛 Luckily I can still do that tomorrow.

I have to admit that our last detective will be difficult to beat. But hey, you have nothing to lose! Don't be shy!

We are already more than an hour over the deadline, but I am still waiting for pawnhandler's vote. That means that anyone else who hasn't voted yet can still do so, too.
