Give me an R!
The frames arrived today, after almost a month (I haven't picked them up at the post office yet, though). I am still waiting for the film. 😕
Have you set a deadline yet for the 'self' round? I'm sure nobody would mind if you would extend it a bit until your film arrives and you had time to scan it. It's taking an awfully long time though. Maybe they have to ship it to a museum to get it developed, now that the whole world seems to have gone digital.

I haven't set a deadline yet, but I think I'll give people about a week. That should give me enough time if my pictures arrive within the next few days (I am far from sure I'll have something worth entering for the competition, though). If they don't, I doubt they will arrive at all. 🙁 I send my slide films to Germany, so it always takes a while, but normally not much more than a week (if I give them to my photo shop in town, it takes about the same time as they don't do slides themselves, and it's more expensive). But the German postal service has become very, very bad. It has become almost normal that things get lost. My brother's nephew almost lost his place at a school in Germany because a letter with documents they had asked for didn't arrive (sent from Japan). And a calligraphy my sister-in-law sent from Japan to Germany was lost, too. 🙁
And the winner is... well... I am. 😉 And congratulations to Ragnorak for a well-earned second place!

The next round is "Self". If you have pictures (up to three entries per person) for that round, please send them to rhpphotocomp@gmail.com . I'd like to open the round next Sunday, but if someone has difficulties to meet that deadline, please let me know, and I might wait a little. So far, I didn't get any pictures. 😕 Who plans to enter this round?
Congratulations on yet another victory, Nordlys. Your aurora pictures always are a joy too look at.
I'm glad to see Body Language getting such a good score too. I don't know if Ragnorak included that theme in his list because he had this series ready, but I think it was a perfect execution of the the assignment. He did a good job at capturing the atmosphere of the scene, and even his title adds too that.
I'll participate in next round, though I'm not too excited about the pictures I can send in.
Originally posted by DdVYup, afraid that series was the reason for a series round. I took those while having a few sups by the lake in Santa Fe, Argentina in 2003. I saw the lads do a few ramps into the lake, and then they spent an age making the ramp wayyy bigger so I thought the first jump on the new improved ramp was going to be good.

I wanted to try to take the focus off the jump, which is more spectacular (I love the legs sticking out of the water in the last shot), but ultimately less interesting than the spectators in my opinion. I love the run up tension, crowd gathers closer with the excitement of the jump, the WOOAAA of the initial splash, and then the release in the final pic. That's why I called it Body Language, so people would look a bit harder at the spectators, rather than concentrating on the jumper.
I really enjoyed the entries in this round. Of course Outburst was the type of entry I had in mind with this round. An amazing scene unfolding over a few shots. Of course when you add in the Aurora into a well executed few shots, I think you've got a winner every time. 🙂
Angel was a series that really grew on me. And I loved the imagination of Tirau's work, especially the web. I just felt that there needed to be more development of a couple of your entries, for example Mr Bangle (while being an interesting chappie) only seemed to lift a foot and put it down, so the scene remained quite static.
Sunset drive home has 3 nice sunset pics, but ultimately for me, they were disconnected as, IMO, the series only existed in essjay's mind, as she experienced it one evening. To me, the viewer, they were 3 sunset pics, that could have been taken in seperate years/countries possibly. I hope that makes sense.
Cheers,
D
Yay, I can post again! 🙂 So far, I only got one maybe-entry for the "Self" round. I call it a "maybe-entry" because the picture is not taken by the person himself, but he stands for the setup. We were both not quite sure whether this is valid, so I'd like to discuss it here. What do you think?
The other thing I wonder about is whether we will have this round at all... Besides the "maybe-entry", I only know of one more person (DdV) who wants to enter. My pictures still haven't arrived, so I doubt I'll be able to participate. 🙁 Any others?
