I was introduced to RHP by a long-time friend of my dad. I am happy with the name I use but I wish I could have a better avatar. The pickings were slim and some would not work. Chuck, if your out there-how about a game! 🙂

I got interested in chess (with which I was fascinated in my youth) again almost two years ago. No time to reach a local club. Started playing 20 minute games on World Chess Network. I really wanted to play slower games to practice deeper analysis and planning. Finally decided to try correspondence chess and did a Web search. RHP came up and now I'm hooked. I've sent out for my subscription so I'll have a nifty star by my name soon.
Speaking of my name, I'm fairly happy with it. I might change it if I could, but I don't know what I'd make it. Funny the Norman Bates thing came up, because "Norman" (after the same character) was a nickname of mine in high school.
RHP is indeed the place to be!

I broke my hip in a cycle race, which meant I was at home 24/7 getting bored. Decided to have a game of chess with a friend by email (I used to play an awful lot many years ago) and while looking for interfaces came across redhotpawn. Didn't take me long to get hooked and I quickly became a pawn star.

As for the avatar, you either love Homer or loathe him, but he's unusual with a bucketload of character 🙄

I was playing chess a lot with my dad, when I was a child. It faded when other things came around (sex & rock'n roll sums it up), but I have taken up playing a lot the last couple of years, taking up looking into openings (the results are inconclusive, as far as my game in concerned) and reading about major players, which is very interesting in itself.
Earlier, I used to play at itsyourturn.com, but I think the interface, the graphics and basically everything about it sucks. I started playing at gameknot.com, which I still do - that is a nice place. Eventually I started here, and I especially like this place because of the nice forum discussions - all sorts of stuff one forum, the real thing, the game itself, in another. I like that. There is a very welcoming atmosphere.
The interface is nice. I am not too happy about the colours when I log on by Red Hot Pawn, so I usually log on by timeforchess.com instead, and that's a very pleasant color scheme.

and how i got here? i was playing my maths teacher at chess, and he said i'd be good with more experience...and lets face it...mutalating 14 year olds aint experince...so...i ended u here! i was playing at gameknot and here, but then i got banned from the forums there, these ones got better, then gk's shut down, so i've stopped playing there...my own personal protest! i've also played at itsyourturn.com and littlegolem.net, but they're kinda crappy compared to here...

and the star? well-i've gotta thank someone for that...but they asked to reamin anaomamous, so they shall do...but thatnks anyway, dude(ette?)!
