..there an explicit statement about advertisers tracking your movements on the RHP site.

Just a thought....Every so often I am reminded of the ego-centricity of web users. A race car driver, while driving in everyday traffic on the highway, must look at everyone driving their car and recognize all the poor driving habits and mistakes people are making. When he is a passenger, he must be going nuts at the poor use of braking versus acceleration, the poor lines we all take as we enter and exit the apex of a corner. For the rest of us though, we are content as long as our skills can keep us on the road and not have anyone crash into us.
Now, there are about 5 billion people on the planet who are of all different ages and our experience on the internet and savyness when using the web are very different. My parents are elderly, never grew up with the net, never had a compy until recently. They know very little about viruses, ad-networks, cookies etc. Sure, it would be beneficial but at their age, trying to get them to understand it all...well pretty difficult. As with most elderly people, they just want to check email and look for vacations and maybe read some of the news.
Young kids, they don't know much about these types of things either. They just want to chat with their friends and maybe do some school research. How much of their time should they be expected to cover their tracks and protect their privacy? How much protection of privacy should be built into the net? None? Some? A lot? A tough question, no doubt.
On this site, we have users of all ages above a certain minimum age. The few posters that have been responding in the negative to my original question, I wonder what age they are. I wonder what level of web-savyness they have. I'd say they have a fairly high level. Now, compare their level to that of the majority of users. Would they be higher, lower, the same? Does it matter?
I wonder if RHP were to take a poll, if it asked all of its users whether they preferred the site use advertisers that track their movements versus advertisers that don't, what percentage of people would pick the tracking advertisers. My instinct would be to say the vast majority would say vote for the non-tracking. I could be wrong. It wouldn't be the first time.
In short, I find our opinions and our judgements are based largely on our experience. A 5 year old would likely say a 10 year old can hit a baseball a long way, but Babe Ruth would likely say the kid sucks.
Perspective. It does funny things to people. It brings out the best in us sometimes, but most times (on RHP) it brings out the worst.

However, when you're not looking one of the cookies (wearing a false moustache and dark glasses) will jump off the plate and hide in the shadows or under the furniture. It will then follow you about WHERE EVER you go FOR EVER!
Originally posted by Daemon SinWhy don't you just delete it. You know, go to tools, internet options delete cookies. Course, this means next time you go to RHP, you'll have to type your name and password again. But hey, after the first thousand times doing this, it won't be frustrating...promise!
Exactly!

or you could go into windows explorer...play around with it until you find your cookie folder, then separate the cookies you want from the ones you don't want and delete the ones you don't want making sure you don't delete the ones you do want.
Then the next time you use RHP, you can go back into windows explorer and do it all again.
This is all so you don't have to have that cookie.
Or, you can set your browser to accept only certain cookies. For that, you need to go to google, type in a phrase you think will help you, then go to that page and follow the instructions. Course, some sites might not work after you do that and then you've gotta figure out a way to allow those sites to have your browser accept their cookies which means more googling and searching.
After you've used google to search for help using your computer, don't even ask about why you start seeing ads for computer help..whoa, that's a whole 'nother story!
whew, i'm tired. Surfin the net is fun!

Someone else can carry on the futile arguing.

Surely you guys must have something better up your sleeves than just these 6 of clubs cards you've been playing. I haven't even seen a face card yet, let alone an ace!

We could always change one of his posts to agree with us and then he can argue with himself!
Well, yours have been good, i'll give you that. You're one of the few that gave some kind of justification for RHP using ad-trackers. I've given you credit where it was due. Ragnorak and the others, well, let's just say they need more polish with their spit...
Originally posted by JigtieI understood completely everything everyone said. Unfortunately it was all about how people can/should protect themselves from sites like RHP that expose you to webtrackers.
You really didn't get it?
That wasn't what I was asking though.
I wanted to know why rhp uses ad-trackers in the first place. Adramforall pointed out it was because rhp gets paid more money by ad-trackers, which i pointed out meant our privacy was being traded for cash. Which leads us to my original question about how do you feel about that?
It has nothing to do with whether you know how to protect yourself or know how to accept/delete cookies.
This isn't a "practical" question, if you will...it's a philosophistical one.
