@moonbus saidThe problem is exacerbated by the group within the lowest socio-economic demographic having the most offspring which puts strain on social services and welfare state funding. Furthermore there is data indicating that around 80% of crime is committed in economically deprived areas.
Hear, hear.
No country lets just anyone in from over the border. But they let any 13 yr old get pregnant and abandon her if she carries the pregnancy to term. This is insane, the high road to extinction.
Let teenagers bonk all they want, with contraception. But parenting is too important to be left to teenagers. There should be mandatory parenting education, with a lic ...[text shortened]... ers. No consent of the village elders that the village can actually support another member, no baby.
One could argue that being poor is the problem, but it isn’t. The problem is that the vast majority of families with dysfunctional parenting have dysfunctional children and those families end up being poor because the dysfunctional behaviour is driven by dysfunctional attitudes which impact education and employment opportunities and so on and so forth.
Being poor isn’t the root of the problem, (although it obviously doesn’t help), the problem (at least with the proliferation of dysfunctional children) is the parents having dysfunctional attitudes and poor parenting skills. Which also leads to poverty.
I.E. being a child in a poor family doesn’t necessarily lead to crime. But being a child in a dysfunctional family who are also poor is very likely to.
@moonbus saidI regularly walk with in-laws and their dogs and one thing I’m seeing more and more of is dog poo bags being left on the ground, hanging on bushes or even thrown under someone else’s car. I suppose the rest of civilisation should be grateful that these grots actually picked it up in the first place.
People who don’t clean up their dog’s poo in public are a real nuisance.

@divegeester saidI am a firm believer that education is the path out of stupidity, poverty, and dysfunctionality. This does not necessarily mean schooling, but expanding the mind in any case, is essential. Travel abroad, for example, is a very good way for young people to expand their minds.

@divegeester saidThere are no badly trained dogs, only badly trained dog owners. That's why the owners should be shot, not their dogs. Dogs can still be rescued.

@divegeester saidFully agree. My youngest sister teaches in a deprived area. The stuff she deals with on a daily basis is appalling.

@divegeester saidIt's about attitude, not about calendars.
We are close to being the same age as I remember from chats during our less combative period.

Yes, you're both in your early 80s.
In my case, that is. In geester's case, I can only speculate.

All these conglomerates have to obey the laws of the country they are operating in.
As if any multinational corporation ever obeyed any country's laws...
@divegeester saidNo. No, it isn't.
The problem is exacerbated by the group within the lowest socio-economic demographic having the most offspring
The problem is exacerbated by the top 0.001% taking all the resources, and leaving those who had nothing, with less than nothing.
Stop blaming the poor for being poor and doing the only few things they can to give them hope. Start executing the ultra-rich for stealing even the single second of hope they ever had from the poor.

@moonbus saidYou would be correct in a sane world.

@divegeester saidI have also noticed more of that on the trails.

@shallow-blue saidThe few things they have to create hope is having a bunch of kids?
No. No, it isn't.

Dive is correct more or less in what he's trying to say. Poorer families have more kids and in the UK get help from the government to support those kids. In other countries without government help the poorer families have children so they can work and earn money for them.
As the more educated have less kids the population gets dumber and dumber.
Moonbus mentioned traveling, that's a great way to open people's eyes but what you see is the fact that being born in a country like the UK, while not perfect is much better than being born in many, many other countries.
But, to travel in the first place you need some money and a mindset to travel. Most don't have that.
No one can tell me that the world is a better place now than it was 20 years ago and it will only get worse.

@shallow-blue saidThats been tried throughout history.

It never ends well.
