Thing is, I have been in hospital with back problems and today I just got sprung. Come home, hit Wells fargo account, find out three separate charges with *58 in the header, one for over $309 and one for $72 and another for 62, 443 dollars total scammed out of my account.

Just bringing it up because these creeps have maybe a whole US scam going and just want to warn folks here to check out your bank account for fraud.

They had to cancel my card, sending another in the mail and they are working (Wells Fargo) and got the 300 dollar charge being put back in my account, probably take a few days and then they will work on the other two charges.

I'm flat on my back, didn't buy a single thing when I am in hospital.
Not sure if I can turn it in to the FBI or someone, there are only numbers on those charges and no phone number of company name so don't know if even the FBI can trace them.
It is obvious they have a fraud going and not just me so word to the wise.

@sonhouse

Just Wells Fargo or all banks?

You must have put your info online at some point or a family member did it.

Who knows how many banks are involved and it was not anyone in my family because my card was in my wallet in my hospital room the whole time so NOBODY had access to that card. $443 down the drain if WF doesn't help.
If you have online banking, obviously I have no clue what bank you use if any but if you do it might pay you to check out your account to see if there is this bullshyte going on in your account.
My guess is I might have bought something months ago using paypal but I don't remember if I did but how could they involve paypal in the first place?

If you see a weird looking charge, like mine that begins with *58 that is a clue.
Better check back a couple of months. My wife's card was scammed also but we need that card for the next few days to buy stuff till my new card gets here in the mail.
She ordered these 'galaxy gummie's or some such from a company in New Mexico and they were supposed to charge some 40 bucks but the actual charge came out as $248. Can't work on THAT scam till my card gets here because the first thing the bank does in these cases it to cancel the offending debit card and we still need SOME king of debit card till my new on gets hear and activated. THEN we can pursue THAT bit of fraud on her card.

Christmas Eve 2002, Perth, trying to buy a guitar for my wife 15 mins before the shop closed, and my credit card had been blocked. I rushed to the ATM so I could pay with cash. Turned out, £15,000 had been charged to my card without me knowing. I told the company. Filled in a form, They wiped it from my account. All was good.

Speaking of guitars...

Back around 2006 me and the ex misses went to a music store for an impulse buy.

The staff earned commission on sales but our help bailed on us. I dress like a bum.
Another guy came over when he saw us frustrated and we bought an acoustic guitar and a classical guitar. Both with cases and an electric tuner for both of us.

I also bought Ernie Ball super slinky strings for my classical guitar which had plastic strings?

So at the checkout our original help stood there with his jaw hitting the floor 😮

I smiled at him and carried our guitars home which we never used.

30 years ago, shopping for shirts here in Yogyakarta. Not many places took credit cards: big hotels, travel agents. They'd have to ring someone to verify the card or there were these massive telephone directory type tomes with lists of bad card numbers. So I find a big clothes shop that just so happens to accept my card and I am paying for a few shirts. The hapless shop assistant is wading through the 1,500 page list of bad card numbers, so I tell her, no need to check that. I've just used my card across the road [not true] and it's fine. She gave up her search, thanked me, processes the payment, and put my shirts in a bag.

Ya but I got a dollar and 16 cents.

Beat that.

No regrets.

Work is for suckers.
