@ghost-of-a-duke saidThen you obviously read the bible. Why would an atheist do that? Or perhaps you found it here?
The drunkenness of Noah is quite a significant episode in the Bible that had ramifications. (Especially in regards to how his sons dealt with the episode).
After the account of the great flood, the biblical Noah is said to have cultivated a vineyard, made wine, and become intoxicated. Thus, the discovery of fermentation is traditionally attributed to Noah because this is the first time alcohol appears in the Bible.

@very-rusty saidWe've talked at least 3 times over the years, you and I, about my theology degree and how I was by no means the only atheist on the course.

@ghost-of-a-duke saidCod or haddock fish and chips? Do you know what kind of fish you were eating or did you just smell it?
Growing up on the coast, the smell of fish and chips triggers many happy memories.

@petewxyz saidAlcoholism, which is ubiquitously referred to as drunkenness in the bible, was fairly common amongst the lower classes of pre and post Christ Judaea. Inebriation is also mentioned frequently in the Old Testament as far back as the accounts of Noah. The use of intoxicating substances is generally referenced with sexual immorality, laziness or general debauchery.
I don't realise there were binge drinking sessions in the bible?! What would the drink have been they were recovering from?
I believe they drank wine mostly.
@ghost-of-a-duke saidActually it was post flood and some time after disembarking the Ark. Noah had planted and harvested a vineyard and it was from those grapes which he made wine and got drunk, not on the ark.
Noah had quite a session on the ark.
@ghost-of-a-duke saidPerhaps “Noah” was an option you chose not to take.
