Is it possible for you to force your own personality into two quite different parts, into a male part, and a female part (with all the steriotypical nonsense you might expect), purely with will power? (Assuming no prior medical problems) Perhaps eventually so switching between the two every so often (maybe without control), or even better with memory problems, where memory between the two personalities is independant of each other. Is that possible?
Originally posted by ChronicLeakyI can't see at all why it would mean that xe has multiple personality disorder. People with multiple personality disorder switch between different personalities or identities (they may even have a completely different body language for each personality). They also usually don't remember the things another personality did. For example, they might suddenly find themselves in some place without having any idea how they got there, because a different personality was in control when they went there. Your description sounds like that person always has the same personality, which includes traits that are typically attributed to males as well as traits typically attributed to females. I guess that could mean that xe doesn't have a gender identity, but it could also mean that xe identifies as male with some female traits or the other way round, or that xe doesn't even consider those things as male or female traits, but something xe just happens to like. Or xe could identify as androgynous, seeing both the female and the male traits as equally important and gender-related.
Yeah, but is one's personality predicated on one's gender identity? I met someone recently who both has well-maintained facial hair and a penchant for wearing floral skirts. Does this mean xe has multiple personalities (and thus a disease) or simply that xyr personality traits do not include a gender?
(Amusing fact I am not making up: this person is a graduate student in my department, specialising in "category theory".)
(Amusing fact I am not making up: Today I bought a hooded jacket in the department for menswear. If they had more stuff in my size, I'd probably do that a lot more often. It's much easier to find something simple without all kinds of frippery there.)

Originally posted by NordlysI agree with this explanation of the possibilities. Actually, xe recently changed his name from a traditionally male one to one that is not used as a name in its original language, which is weak evidence for some of your possibilities and against others.

(Amusing fact that people from RHP London meet-ups can give evidence for: I stole most of my jeans from my younger sister when she didn't want them anymore.
Spoken in good faith [whale]: I hope the hooded jacket is warm. I just moved someplace very cold, so I stole one from my father before I left 😉.
Erroneous conclusion: I'm what Bad Wolf wants to be.)

(The hooded jacket isn't very warm, it's mostly for inside. Besides, the winters here are probably a lot warmer than the winters in your new place; although still cold enough to make a warm hooded jacket sound like a good thing. (Thief! If we ever meet, I'll make sure I don't leave any clothes unattended.))
