What Starrman meant to say was: try http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

Don't camcorders come with a disk that has all sorts of media tools and players on them?

Canon, but I was able to find a driver on line that let me burn the file to CD, and it plays on my home PC. Not ideal but it will have to do.

That's make, not model, but I decided I haven't got the time to source a solution anyway...

google didn't even show me that site. I was able to get the manual in pdf this morning, The european site had a driver, but it doesn't help. I'll have to check my drivers on the house pc and see if I have a copy.

I'm sorry, I don't see the problem. If you install the driver can't you just get the video off the camera? If so, what format is it in and if not, why not?

I can't play the video on my laptop, it says it doesn't have the proper decoder. Dazzle allowed my to copy it directly from the camera to my hard drive, then I burned a copy and it played on my pc. I'm an e-idiot

Get an old 8mm Kodak and take the film to a place that'll put it on DVD. Problem solved and I'm sure for a lot less than a camcorder and all the paraphenalia needed to see it on you PC or anyone elses.
