I shook hands with Noam Chomsky after he gave a talk in Bellingham WA.
Originally posted by eyeqpcI also shook the hand of Jon Bon Jovi when he was an a cruise between Sweden and Finland, I believe it was 1986, before he became really famous. I was working as a safety officer on the ship, of course, his group was there to party, as did we.

My sister has worked for a charity organisation and has met a number of famous people, including John McCarthy (British hostage that was held in Beirut between 1986-1991), Dave Gilmour (Pink Floyd), Cherie and Tony Blair (I wonder who they are!) and Ruth Rendell (Novelist).
Oh yes, and another claim to fame (although I didn't actually shake his hand) is that I have met Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden). I used to work for Astraeus Airline and he is a pilot there. He came into an office with a suit and tie and I couldn't believe it!
Also met and took a photograph of Clive Barker (horror novelist). He was doing a book signing in Oxford Street. Still got the photograph and a signed book from him.
I have also met Jackie De Creed, who was at the time a stunt woman who had the world record car jump. Suppose she isn't REALLY famous but it meant something to me. 🙂
The trouble with famous hands is that if you haven't heard of them are they still famous or not? I've shook hands this year with Sam Ermolenko, Dave Norris and Steve Johnson. Some of you might know who they are but I guess most of you will not 🙂 Still, I think they're famous, particularly as one of them is an ex world champion.

I was blessed by the Pope (though it was the "heathen" blessing, apparently, according to others in line at the Vatican).
I have also met:
Anton Fig (drummer on Letterman's show)
Mike Portnoy (drummer of Dream Theater)
Gary Payton (former basketball great who played here in Seattle)
Patrick Ewing (another basketball player from New York who played here for a year before retiring).
Brad Pitt (at a museum, I don't see what the fuss is all about)
Tom Wolfe (after a lecture of at the University of Washington)
Joey Lauren Adams (actress in Chasing Amy, Big Daddy, etc)
