Jesus wasn't killed by one group of people...he had to die to fulfill prophesy, so in essence we ALL had something to do with his death. The Romans were the ones who nailed him to the cross, perhaps some Jewish leaders wanted him ...[text shortened]... ould be placed on WHY he died that who killed him. Just my opinion
Absolutely true! People should go and see the film and figure this out ....

We all wrestle with prejudice. Someone who claims that he is not prejudiced is either too young to know or not telling the truth or doesn't have enough selfknowledge .... Make your choice.

Indeed, sometimes I have problems with his personal attitude in the debate. I've told him more than once that he is often arrogant. For some reason he becomes the teacher that will teach his pupil a lesson. He then simply does not respect his opponent as an equal. Moreover I strongly have the impression that he is not so much interested in trying to under ...[text shortened]... eing but he's interested in teaching them how things work. My first post was serious, Ivanhoe. Given the current public debate about the historical accuracy of the film, and the outcry from Jewish communities concerning the portrayal of Jews in the film, I thought it apropos to mention that some Chritians are reacting to the film in a very mean-spirited way. Many Jews around here were concerned that their portrayal w ...[text shortened]... ally know you, why don't we both just leave out the personal speculations and jack-psychology.
In much the same way I would not poke fun of an ancestor of yours thats passed away, or someone you look up to and respect, try gain a insight into why people might be offended.
Next time you bring up the outrage and shock of a sign on a church, keep in mind that bumper sticker is equally offensive.

it is a sexist attitude.
if you have defined 'emotional' (whatever you mean by that) and can show that all women fit that criteria better than all men only then would you be correct. this statement is similar to "men are physically stronger than women" which is just as obviously false.
your original statement though was "women in general *are* mor ...[text shortened]... drunk to the nearest rehab center. so who was being 'emotional'?

I pick up hitch hikers as I like the company and liek trying to help people out. Obviously I don't pick up ever hitch hiker I see; instead I make a split second judgement based on their appearence. But I've noticed that I am noticably more likely to pick up a caucasion than any other race - does this make me racist?
I guess the answer is what thoguhts make me more likely to pick up caucasions. Two things spring to mind. Firstly that I am more likely to have things in common with and speak the same languages as caucasions, leading to pleasent banter on the journey. Secondly, I think I have the instinct that other races are more likely to be poorer therefore more likely to be tempted towards crime and therefore are more likely to pose a risk to me. This is the part that bothers me; in a social or business situation race never crosses my mind, but when strangers are involved I think it does.
If it is a racist streak in me then how do I combat it? I'm not going to start specifically picking up people of specific races...
On a side note, I'm definatly more likely to pick up girls. I think because they are much less likely to be able to harm me, I'd rather me pick them up than someone with bad intentions (which is probably very sexist, that I think they automatically need more protection than guys!). And I like girls. A lot. 😵
So where does making generalisations based on fact (girls are more likely to be attacked) that we all have to make every day become prejudice?

bbar's comment was a joke, (indeed not even his), and a light hearted jest regarding the fact that when people see their boss coming 'look busy'. It is actually saying that Jesus is 'the boss'.
Where is the offense in that? Unless there is a reactionary element who cannot take any form of humour about their religion.
In contrast your post is rude and represents a personal attack. Which is rather unchristian of you. How about you stay safe in the knowledge that bbar is going to hell for his evil acts of being rational and intelligent, and you will spend eternity in heaven?

in fact, you have only made 1 not nice post in your whole time on rhp that i can recall - and only a very, very small part of it was a minor problem. here is that part: "Chemistry is "only" wet physics!!! Why I ought to...! " i understand that you made that statement a long, long time ago and even then in a brief moment of madness whence you forgot our immense and ubiquitous debt to physics, so it is not something that should be held against you eternally.
in this post, you do provide an argument for your being racist and sexist, but i do not think it is correct. you are not making sweeping generalizations like 'all purple coloured guys can't speak english and are prone to violence'. (you did make some sweeping conclusions about non-whites being poorer and therefore more prone to crime that you called instinct - and acknowledged that it bothered you).
the fact that you 'prefer' to pick up caucasians because you figure you are more likely to communicate with them doesn't in itself make you racist. you are making a calculated choice based on your available facts. the fact that you feel girls need more protection doesn't make you sexist - again, you are making a choice based on available information (ie likelihood of crimes against male vs female hitch-hikers). these seem more iike practical 'solutions' to a situation, than prejudice and hardly in the same vein as something like 'men are unfeeling brutes'.
speaking of unfeeling, i never pick anyone up (well i might have once or twice may be), but not because i'm totally racist or sexist, but because i don't like company and chatter. i don't even put the radio on when i drive. come to think of it, i don't even like to drive anymore. so i won't, based on my available facts.
it may be argued that you are not an equal opportunity hitch hiker picker uper, but i don't think any faction will be taking you to court on this.
we continually develop criteria upon which we evaluate. this is very sensible to do and should not be construed as bigotry. what is important, in my opinion, is that when we find we are going to be 'discriminating', we do so based on a rational and equitable understanding of the situation rather than unjustifiable and unkind baggage we have decided to carry with us.
