Israel scares me more than any other self proclaimed "civil" nation in the world. It is not so much the fanatical right wing government (the irony of history repeating it self) but more the sheer self belief that they can say or do anything they like. Israel is the most paranoid country I have ever visited, and I have been to quite a few, it just feels like the whole system is failing everyone - like kirk suggested they probably need to look to starting again.
Israel is no longer viewed as the victim be the west of the world, but as the aggressor. Why is it for the government of Israel to say who Palastine has as their spokeman? Maybe Arafat is the worlds worst terrorist in the eyes of the common man in Israel, but if he is the man who can broker peace with Israel than you have to talk to him. It is no good putting a puppet leader in charge of Palastine and agreeing a peace that the people will ignore. When the government of Israel thinks it can just publically assasinate a rival to its political views maybe they are just terrorists themselves.
Maybe it is time for new people at the table from both sides. People who are not just trying to "win" a peace, but solve differences together. In a conflict fueled by hate no one ever wins, it is continuing the hate that is the power base that keeps the "old guard" of politicians hanging onto power.
Palastine is in the wrong, Israel is in the wrong, the Western world is in the wrong, and the Arab nations are in the wrong. People just need to accept that no one is in the right and move on.

I guess you know very well that the term Holocaust is a term that became well known after a television series was broadcasted of the same name. It was an American production. The term "Shoah" is the name used by Jews who prefer using this term instead of "Holocaust". I prefer to use the term "Shoah". The English speaking world may be that part of the world that counts to you, but there is still another part of the world to consider.I guess you are playing the same games you were playing in your discussion with bbarr.

Shoah and Holocaust refer to the same hystorical entity, but some people prefer the one over the other. In Israel they use the term Shoah most of the time. But then again I don't know what Feivel wants and when I asked him to clarify he refused. Well, you can read his post ...
