If so, please tell me what are the religious questions or issues at stake.

Absolutely this is about religion! (oh, and a bit of a problem with the UN)

This has been a problem since the Egyptian's drove the Jews out of Egypt. It is a conflict that has gone on for thousands of years and has been handed down from generation to generation. Then, in the 50's, our wonderful UN thought it would be a great idea to take land away from the Palastinians and create Israel. Then, the surrounding Arabs thought it would be a good idea to try and kick them out (the Yom Kippur War and the 7 Day War). In the process, the Arabs got their butt kicked and have been resentful ever since. The Arabs want their land back (the Golan Heights being the most notable) in exchange for peace, but Israel believes that this land is key to their defense.

Then, Israel likes to build settlements in Palastinian territory. And finally, when you think that you might have a settlement, it comes down to the fact that all three religions, (Muslim, Judism, and Christianity) share the same holy sites in the same holy cities.

So, set aside thousands of years of hate and mistrust, divide up the holy sites, and give back their land, and you can have a settlement. It is just that easy...🙄

The way I see it . It is primarely about land, territory.
The claims they have on the land on both sides may be "inspired" by religion in the sense that the claims they make are partly justified by religion.

Reaper made a post in this thread (15 sept. '03 19:18) of what the Bible says on this subject. This post was dismissed by a few people as being nonsense or rubbisch or whatever. But What Reaper was trying to say in my opinion was that a considerable number of people in Israel take these Bible quotes as "Roadmap" towards a "Greater Israel". As such they cannot be dismissed. On the contrary. If you want to understand the complicated situation in the region you'll have to accept them as political facts and you'll have to study them as such. I did not make any remarks about that, because I was busy trying to survive elsewhere. It was a pity that such an important contribution to the discussion was smothered in booing. The issue of Jerusalem together with the (im)possible return of the Palestinian refugees are the two problems that are the most difficult ones and they seem unsurmountable. The key mediator The United States are trying to implement the so called "Roadmap to peace". The "Roadmap to a Greater Israel " points in a very different direction. The only one who should be able to convince the settlers, the vanguard of the "Greater Israel Ideology", to change their course into the direction of the "Roadmap to Peace" is Mr. Sharon, dispised by the Political Centre and the Political Left in the West, but absolutely necessary to build a lasting peace in the Middle East. In this moment there isn't anyone inside Israel who is equipped with the same influence on the settlers and at the same time is capable to replace him as leader of the Political Right.

anybody remember when this war actually started? The war in the Middle East in general has been ongoing since what, Mesopotamia(har to speel.)?

If anything, our Brisbane paper has called the War on Terrorism the Hundred Years War 2. WTF?? We had one already, and now G.W.Bush has stirred up more, from an ongoing Millenia war.

Rupert Murdoch is jewish.
In the UK we have him controlling the media, and Richard Desmond, owner of the Star, Express and a huge porn empire, is also jewish.

You seem to have ignored this from the first time it was posted, so I'll give you the opertunity to read it again and then reassess your quoted statement:

Never say that again! The Israelis do not want war. They want peace.
But when a Palestinian walks onto a bus and decides to blow it up the Israelis have no choice. The Israelis are also guarding Palestinian children guaranteeing their safety.

My thought go out to all those who´s lives have been damaged by terrorism and it´s after effects. My thought´s are there every day.

You can say that the Palestinians force the Israel´s into fighting, but after the last suicide bomb the Israelies retaliated by bombing a "known" (?) terrorist leqders house. With a half tonne(!) bomb. In a residential area. And they missed him, killing instead his daughter just the day before her wedding. Ask yourself - if you were the fiancee of that girl would you now be in the mood to talk peace, or would you be next in line to strap on a few kilo´s of C4 and get on a bus? It matters not who started it, only who is truely interested in finishing it.

I'm not defending the bombers, but surely you can see that the Israelies aren't purely victims here?!

That's not quite clear. His mother was jewish I think, but not his father. I thought Murdoch was presbyterian.

So I was even more right than I thought if Rupert is also. I don't really think it matters except as to the bias towards the zion issue. 🙂

What do you think the Israel government should do as long there isn't a peace settlement and therefore the suicide bombings will probably continue to take place ?

Hi. What do you think is the root cause of the problem?

My solution: "I, George W. Bush, do hereby bequeath to the nation of Israel the northern half of Nevada. Please move here as it looks as barren as Israel and you will have 50 times as much land with ne're a suicide bomber to be found anywhere. And by all means drive down to Vegas as it was first developed by a Jew. Shalom and God bless."

LOL. Well I'm prepared to donate a sizable chunk of South Australia to the peace effort, if that's any help. Perhaps we should start a "donate some desert" fund to solve this thing once and for all.

Ariel Sharon went up to Gaza and that's where it all started.
