Would define:
1 - Constantly judging others
2 - Not upholding the standards we preach
3 - Not judging ourselves by the standards we preach
4 - Not wanting to learn from others
5 - etc, etc, etc...
as a sign of character strength?

Please expand on your claim. You've got my undivided.
Positive thinking (if I understand) relieves stress letting your body get better, and you to even perform better. I thought this was relatively common sense.
Think you're going to fail and it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. Think you're going to succeed and you just might... it can't hurt to think positive.
