@great-big-stees saidOr perhaps it’s because veganism isn’t an optimal diet for humans.
Though a meat eater myself (and will continue to be...old habits die hard) perhaps that is because it takes some time for the body to adjust to the change in where the protein is derived?
@divegeester saidI would go along with that idea and mostly because my "main" mantra is, "everything, in moderation".

@caesar-salad saidI'll tell you something I'd like to see, and am equally unlikely to: the next issue of Dangerous Visions.
All I know for sure is that the centenary of the first issue of Amazing Stories (published by Hugo Gernsback) won't happen until April of 2026.
What interesting developments are we likely to see in the 2020s?
@drewnogal saidYup, which is why veganism kills it. I don't know a single healthy vegan who wasn't already super-super healthy before he turned vegan, and only dropped to super-healthy. By contrast, all the "normal" vegans I know, and almost all "normal" vegetarians, have health problems that they blame on "unhealthy inorganic food" which I, natural omnivore, do not suffer from - surprise, surprise.
Humans become more productive with good health.
The huge increase in cardio-vascular accidents in developed countries are mainly due to the unnecessary and excessive consumption of animal protein.
Nope. They're mainly due to unnecessary and excessive consumption, full stop. Animal protein doesn't come into it. In fact, most of the worst products in this regard are empty sugars and starches, which are perfectly vegan.
Humans become more healthy by consuming a higher ratio of plant to animal protein.
As the Pikiwediasts say: Citation Needed.
@Shallow-Blue
"Pikiwediast"
sounds to my aging ears as perverted as
whatever is really really perverted today
There will be wars and rumors of wars. Mankind will persist in its short sighted and ultimately futile pursuit of wealth. Children will starve, the poor will get poorer, disease and drought will ravage the Earth. As climates change, water will become a weapon and agriculture a hydroponic art.
We fear the things that go bump in the night. We avoid the shadows as they house the worst of our imagined fears. Make no mistake though, shine a light on these dark things and we will find they are us.
The 2020’s are the strutting line for the end of humanity. The Universe will be better for it.
@hand-of-hecate saidHaven't the aforementioned things been happening for years now?

People have been predicting the end of the world for many decades now, and we are still here.
I believe some of the cures for certain cancers that have been discovered some time ago will finally be told to the world this year at some point.

@very-rusty saidCertainly. That’s the thing though isn’t it? We have reached a point where we have huge capacity to do good. And yet we remain committed to ignorance. For example, the idea that challenging people’s beliefs with facts is offensive is a reality.

@hand-of-hecate said“Mankind” reached a point where we have a huge capacity to do good way before Homo sapiens walked the earth. And the lack of our ability to ‘do good to each other” should not be conflated with generational delusionalisms such as offencism and the youth-targeting social-Thalidomide of Instagram and Facebook. Social media is not the problem itself, it is merely a window for the decomposition and decay.

The problem as I see it is our oversized brain.
@divegeester saidA study based on UK vegans visiting their GP because of colds and flu in the UK? .........Come on, that’s hardly a serious health concern or a drain upon NHS resources compared to those who have diet related high cholesterol and go on to experience a stroke or heart attack? I’m potentially one of those people even though I’ve always kept my BMI around 21 and exercise every day. I’m therefor not going to continue eating the same fatty rubbish like pizza, cake and chocolate just because I’m now prescribed Statins to control it.
Veganism doesn’t appear to be the answer then.

@drewnogal saidThere are several reports and datum on the negative productivity effects of Veganism, I just shared the first one I came to.

Also, the opposite, or solution to, a sedentary lifestyle of pizza, cake and chocolate isn’t veganism, it’s less pizza, cake and chocolate and more exercise.
