I'd say phobias are the natural condition of mankind. We fear what we don't understand, we hate what we fear. It takes self-confidence and intellectual reasoning to move beyond it. Some of us, unfortunately, are stuck in animal/instinctual mode. It's the lazy way out.

One of my ex-girlfriends got me into rollerblading with her a few years back. There are hundreds of miles of wide paved sidewalks here used as rollerblade and bicycle trails, so it isn't that unusual to see a guy out there doing it. I met another girl last year while she was putting on her rollerblades, and it was something we did together a lot.

Can it be a phobia?

I don't like crowded rooms, and I'll go out of my way to avoid large crowds of people. You could certainly say they scare me. That being said, if I REALLY want to do something, I'll be willing to deal with the crowds to get what I want, and I wouldn't freak out when put in that environment.
On the other hand, someone who actually displays a dramatically heightened level of anxiety, irrational fear or panic, or experiences a feeling of dread at the thought of being in a large crowd, that person would have Demophobia.
I think there's a pretty clear line between being "uncomfortable" and having a phobia. In the context of this thread, if I met a homosexual person and had a passing thought in my head that the idea of homosexuality doesn't appeal to me... that's a lot different than if I were to run into the bathroom and scrub my hands raw because I was repulsed a gay person had shook my hand. I'd say the second would constitute a phobia.

I believe "phobia" is defined as an irrational fear. A calculated, rational dislike or fear would either be called "bigotry" or "common sense".

Are you happy and carefree?
Are you Gay?
Mike is.
But... He is prolly also aware of conditioning. Dude.
