Hello,

I'm currently taking a year out of schooling, before university and I'm looking for suggestions on places to see on my travels. I'm considering some sort of world tour thing, so if anybody knows of anywhere I should visit, then I'd greatly appreciate the help.

thanks, (in advance)

Two extremes.

The Arctic circle during winter, it is something you have to experience to understand the beauty. I was in northern Sweden last winter.

And Australia, especially the south east (where i live)

Ulaan Bator. Never been there myself, but only the anagrammatist can object to a place with double As.

Go someplace warm! St Maartin was a blast... and I even had a good time visiting Mexico...

Funny story time (like it isn't always for me)...

I was in Mexico and had just got back on a bus from Chapultapec or Zochi Milco... or what ever...

I had to get back to the room quick.. I had to use the pot something bad. I blasted into the room and went straight for the john. I spent a lot of time there.... as one might in my condition.

I started looking around the room and wondering who cleaned up. I started looking around the room and noticed some picture I had not seen before. I started looking around and noticed it was not my room I was in...

I got finished and freshened up a bit quick and ran from the room... I didn't let the people in the living room see my face as I ran straight down to the lobby to start over... I had been on the wrong floor..

Dutch side is fine for meeting nice people / drinking / shopping / drinking / staying / eating / drinking / and meeting more nice people.

Here is a saying me and my friends made up while we were there.

"There are a lot of Conks, and everyone with a car Honks". I guess the custom there is to honk your horn at every bike and car that passes, every intersection and corner, every cat and dog, everytime you put a blinker on, everytime you are bored, etc.

Hawaii, island hop. You can do west coast USA first, see the Getty museum, a must, they have some really great stuff. Then on to the Orient.

Much depends on your budjet of course. If you're not looking to spend a fortune, and still want a great experience, I recommend backpacking in Eastern Europe. Out of the cities there, I would urge you to visit Prague and Krakow. In southern Poland and Slovakia is the Tatra national park areas with beautiful, majestic mountains and great hiking opportunities. The peaks can be reached by foot by anyone in moderately good condition, and believe me, the views are worth the climb! There are also good skiing opportunities there, should you visit the Tatras in the winter.

Also, in an Eastern Europe trip, you can get all the sunshine and beaches you want in Croatia, which has a long coastline along the mediterranean. If budjet alows, you can take boat trips from the Croatian coast to Italy.

Also, if you can afford it, you might want to include a visit to the arctic circle in midsummer, in Norway, Sweden or Finland - and experience the sun that never sets. 🙂

Another concept altogether is a backpacking trip to India. The flights are the most expensive thing about the trip, living there and finding accomondation is very very cheap. (Most expensive in Mumbai, but dramatically cheaper in smaller places.) If you do go to India, don't miss the Corbett national park north of New Delhi, it's astounding. The elephant ride you can get there is not some cheap tourist gimmic (ride the elephant in a ring for ten minutes), but an unforgettable two hour ride in the park including places inaccessible by any other mode of transportation. You can sleep the night in the park in a guarded camp area, but you'll be on vegetarian diet while there. No meat allowed, as it may attract the 50 or so tigers in the park area. In the India trip, the beaches at Goa are the best places to relax - Goa is like "India-lite" in that all the things that cause the culture shock when you get to India are less "in-your-face".

Those are my recommendations. Hope you'll have a great time wherever you go! 🙂

Hey Jim, come visit Australia. If you're looking to save a few bucks you can always sleep on my mum's couch, but in return you'll have to do the dishes every night.

Wherever you go is dependant on what you want, and what oppertunities turn up (cheap flights being the usual desider).

My point is just a little one: don't go to too many places, or put in the opposite sense, wherever you go: stay a while rather than rush off to the 'next place'
