Apparently not much.

In the US people build houses and towns at the bases of volcanos, on cliffs destined for mudslides, on hurricane-riddled shorelines, on top of fault lines, and in tornado alleys.

There is something to be said for the boring northern-midwest region.

I am sure you would agree, anyone silly enough to buy a house (that is not a boat) on a flood plain is quite silly.

What is amazing is that the house builders know these silly people exist and are allowed to get away with it.

hey ho that is life.

Wanna buy a cheap house near a river?

What gets me is that none of these people who knowingly live in on a flood plain own a sand bag 😛

It's crazy to think a builder can erect a home on a property that is ineligible for home insurance.

i've been wondering for a while-what constitutes a "lack of housing"? does it use the same logic that says in scotland there are not enough teachers?* have you ever walked through one of the "rougher" estates in your town? there are hundreds upon hundreds of houses, it's just that noone wants to live in them. so we move onto the flood plains...

*3495 have just graduated. there are 500 (approximatly) full-time or permanent jobs available.
