National borders doesn't mean anything to me. People the world over are important. Someone in the past decided "this country" within this virtual enclosure belongs to "these people" and generations from then on follow this view like sheep.
We have a nationality, whether or not we want it.
Originally posted by FabianFnasYes, I agree that we cannot get rid of our nationality. That is only because governments have imposed that upon us, like they have imposed many things that we might not like.

It still isn't something that I would want to identify myself by, but forced to whenever I go to another country.
I can understand why people would want to have an affinity for a particular culture which is typical of a particular country, but I cannot understand why they would be *proud* to have a certain nationality, as if it is some kind of achievement.
I know you din't ask, but I'll tell you what I think. I think that most people's character is informed to a greater or lesser degree by the nation state in which they grew up. You may not like it, but itsda truth. Me, I'm from England. I'm no patriot by any stretch of the imagination - in fact I abhor patriotism (while being prepared to fight to the death for your right to be a patriot), but, like the guy said, "know thyself". So give us a clue and show us yer flag, or don't and we'll think you're either paranoid or ashamed.😛

As for me, if they believe that I am paranoid or ashamed, then let them believe that. I am not saying there is anything wrong when people wave their flag, they have their reasons (e.g. FabianFnas who wants people to be aware of his mother tongue).

When I entered RHP at the beginning, I made a lot of errors, people misunderstood me, and I oftenly missed the finer details of others arguments. And don't tell me about the ironies.
I'm much better now. I think. I hope. 😉

In fact, better than many people's English here where it is their first language. 😛

Apart fromt that, I'd never display a flag of the country I live in because I am completely opposed to patriotism.
Riiiight. I guess the world is simpler when you're that judgemental.
