I thought about that, but actually couldn't come up with anything meaningful.
We could talk about books. I totally hated the Wizard of Oz movie from the time I was young, but loved Wicked which gives quite a different point of view as well as being well written. It also has an interesting take on how evil is defined. Now I'm reading the sequel, Son of a Witch.

I didn't like the movie. I never read the book! I finally bought it but ... well ... it's on my ToBeRead list along with about 200 others!
Originally posted by badmoonLOL I liked Frodo much more than Bilbo. I don't remember how I felt when I first read them, but when I tried to read LOTR last summer (or the summer before?) again Bilbo just totally got on my nerves. He was such a jerk, both at the whole birthday party thing at the beginning of the book and then later. Gollum should've pulled him under the water and drowned him.

Aragorn was the best! Anyone who has a whole epic poem written about them ... including:
Not all that glitters is gold
not all who wander are lost
...choice words for a classy guy!
EDIT - Actually, I didn't like most of the characters in the movie. Whatserface - the famous hottie who played the Elven princess - was good. Ooh...Gollum was awesome.

BTW, so what else have you read?

Originally posted by AThousandYoungI read Flowers for Algernon in high school I think. Saw the movie Charly around the same time. I think I have some Dragonlance here but haven't read them. Animal Farm: All animals are created equal, but some are more equal than others. Who could forget??

Now you made me get up and look! I have from Dragonlance Dragons of Winter Night but I haven't read it yet. I thought I had some B and M but I may have sent them to someone without reading first. The names sound familiar, though. I should spend less time bemoaning dead forums and more time reading!

The next year, I happened upon a copy of The Phantom Tollbooth, and I haven't been the same since...

to mourn the death of the General Forum. It lived a full, albeit quirky life. It had its ups and downs, and was both reviled and loved. But now we bid it adieu ... after checking for a pulse one last time ...
1. I've been here for 3 years and every 6 months someone comes along and suggests the good old times were so much better. Well...they weren't. If people are posting crap now, they were posting crap back then too.
2. I warned ye all of the evils of clan forums. Private little hideaways never do a general message board any good.
3. Boards tend to have a cycle. A period of being great and a period of being less entertaining. Most boards die off after they've peaked. This board is different though, because it's actually a side show to playing chess (what the site is actually about).
So, even if you would suggest there is a dip in quality posting, it will soon enough cycle through to better times.
Stop worrying, crying and whining and post something good! That's always a good start.
