The temperature is bad enough, but the wind chill factor tomorrow will be between -40 and -50. Feel so helpless about our pheasants and other wildlife all around us...many on our own acres here. We do what we can by putting out corn. Our renter has not hauled away all of the stacks of huge bales of hay, either. Of course the small birds manage to get to our feeders and cluster up in the spruce and pine trees by our garage. Otherwise, we just can't do anything for them. A pack of coyotes moves through occasionally. They benefit by the bad weather because of the mortality rate of the oheasants and cottontail rabbits.
Well, at least the sun is shining. Everything is cancelled for the second Sunday in a row. Yesterday the same. Our tabby was having a great time watching the cottontails out in the pile of corn and carrot peelings. The whitetail deer bed down in our trees south of the house because we live on a slope and they are out of the wind. They survive somehow. We have more deer this fall because the frequent rains prevented a lot of the corn harvest until hunting season was over. Both pheasants and deer had the fields to hide in and get sustenance at the same time. Some fields never did get harvested....but they will in time.
