And the step just before that when you see the game slipping away leaving you no chance to win, but not yet totally lost to you. Then I shift over to 'draw at any cost' mode, especialy looking for a 3-fold repetition. People expect you to make reasonable moves and rarely see a claimed draw, so your piece(s) sacrifice and repeated checks/moves may go unnoticed for what they are until you pocket the 1 point.
