Those who are in the gang, KNOW it and KNOW their roles BECAUSE I haven't told them anything. This is BECAUSE the people suited to be in my gang are NOT the kind of people who need to be told. Those of you who have not heard from me KNOW what this means. And that's why I've NOT needed to tell you.

He is not in the gang because there's no way he'd be able to tell the difference between NOT needing to be told he is IN, on one hand, and NOT being told he's in because he ISN'T, on the other. He doesn't have what it takes.

Like going to look at a new Rolls Royce and asking the price.
If you have to ask the price you can't afford one but you haven't realised that you can't afford one because you don't know how much they cost.
Next thing you know security are gently escorting you to the car park and your beaten up Ford pick up.
