Originally posted by tmetzlerThank you tmetzler, this is what I was after - for some of the picky subs (not you in particular!! - just a description of the ones who do discriminate) to give us non-subs a chance. To perhaps, at least check out our current/previous games (for an idea of how likely we are to play at a decent speed and finish the game) before deleting the offer of a game from a non-sub.
Another angle is...
A non-subscriber is more likely to have a good experience with RHP if they are allowed to play SUSCRIBERS; for all the exact reasons that subscribers like to play ONLY subscribers.
The better experience a non-subscriber has, the more likely they are to SUBSCRIBE.
For this reason, I will now take it upon myself to play one non-su ...[text shortened]... n-subscribers. People who don't mind answering questions and moves fairly often.

Also thank you to all others for your input! It has helped me to understand this action a little more, (although I still do not agree with it, as most of the replies were related to general accusations about non-subs which cannot and do not apply to all of us). I will try not to get so pi$$ed off when I see nothing but "stars only" requests in the open invites page (I'll just add my own invite I suppose).
I also wanted to point out that many of us non-subs are decent people who really just like to play chess. We are not all cretins who shout abuse or leave the game just because we are losing. Many of us have not subscribed simply because we are not interested in the tourny/clan games and possibly the thought of having more than 7 games just doesnt appeal. It does not mean that we will ALL take days to play a move or allow the game to timeout.
Thank you all for reading this thread and adding your input and even more appretiative thanks to any of you who have changed your opinion even slightly and would be more open to playing games against non-subs occasionally. As pointed out by a few people, this would be more likely to encourage non-subs to stick around (and possibly even subscribe) than to discriminate against us and refuse to play.
Cheers again to you all - have fun π

speaking of open invites, anyone see the invite listed currently by creswinman for players 2400-2500. I wonder how long it will stay. I don't even think players rated that high even visit the open invite section.

Why do so many open invites have the "subscribers only" request? I mean why does it matter if the opponent is a subscriber or not?
Ok I can understand any "no provisional players" requests that appear, because there is a fair chance of playing an opponent who's "real" rating far outways the 1200 or so of provisional players. (Even if this is partly acc ...[text shortened]... the only reason then they will be timed out. So...
Why make open invites for "Stars" only?
