Why should equality be such a big deal?

I dont understand why women should have to claim equality; or worse still a viriety of races fight for it.

If there is equality, then is there need to fight for it? Thats if "equality" is the state if being equal, why cant it be left as a fact and to rest like that? Thus if ever it exists as a fact.

I guess people don't think that equality exists, so they fight for it. Do you remember the days of slavery?

he's probably saying that we'll never reach the equilibrium state, so why bother trying to get there? and if it is the case, then i'll say that it's a rhetorical question, which would lead to some heavy philosophical debate. and the debate would result in everybody, except for a very few people, remaining with their own point of views - status quo. so then why bother trying to find an answer to this question?

We may bother to find an answer -if one exists. That is reason enough.

If you believe in equality, go hit a woman to prove that you see her as an equal. She will take it as a compliment.

Equal rights, equal fights?

I think catfoodtim could direct to places where you'd find women ready to accept your compliments...

i sense some teenage maximalism in this. unfortunately i need to know what to do with the answer as well before i'll search for it. just a mere existance of an answer ain't reason enough - there're plenty of answers to lots of questions, but most of these would be useless in our everyday life.

I take it you aren't currently being oppressed.

define oppressed please ... 😉

we're all been oppressed one way or another, it's how we deal with this oppression that makes a difference. and besides the point, history generally proves that people who 'won their freedom' from oppression become oppressors themselves. and most of the time they are far worse then their predecessors ...

It's the opposite of presto.

Well, it's nice that husbands no longer have the right to chastise their wives, and so on. Now the martinet is a sought-after collector's item.
