Anyone care to hazard a guess at the ratios in Europe and the US?

I know in the US the Wii is destroying PS3 by a landslide. Its probably the same ratio of 6 to 1. The PS3 suffers from a couple of things really here in the states at least.

1. $600 price tag
2. No must have games as of yet

If they had number 2, then number 1 wouldn't matter as much. I also suspect once FFXIII and MSG4 come out, sales of the PS3 will go up.

There have been significant difficulties in obtaining the Wii in Europe though. I think Nintendo underestimated the demand.

I looked around for three months before finding one from Italy.

Great machine, best console I ever owned. It is a return to what is important in computer games. It is damn fun to play, particularly with friends as those controllers are a stroke of genius.

There aren't many must have games for the Wii, but Nintendo has at least one of its flagship games for it, Zelda. I think one of the big things that are driving sales for the Wii is the game play potential in the Wii remote.

There are difficulties finding it here in the states as well. They fly off the shelf as soon as a store gets them in.

It's not so much about the games themselves yet I don't think. It's the controllers that do it.

As games manufacturers start to get to grips with the Wii possibilities expect to see some real innovation.

Just playing tennis on the thing is hilarious.

I think they may have missed a trick with the Miis though. Currently Miis can only travel to known consoles but if they could randomly travel around the internet and be a form of introductions then Instant Messenging could take develop into something quite extraordinary.

The Wii edition of Resident Evil 4 is predicted to be a good seller.

The original version of the game just got ranked 2nd in respected top "100 Games Ever" poll:

Yeah, I also read where they are making a gun attachment for the Wii remote.... that will open up lots and lots of possibilties. Also according to:

Namco, Sega and Capcom are diverting all their PS developing to the Wii. That does not bode well for the PS3

That's the beauty of the controller. You don't need a gun attachment for the console. You can either hold the controller like a gun or tape it to the side of a big stick and aim that like a gun.

One racing game I saw recently comes with a free steering wheel. They can only do that because all you need is a plastic wheel with a slot in it to place your controller. The controller is all the devices you buy for other consoles rolled into one. With the possible exception of a dance mat.

Good thread.

My PSP does the job for me when on the road, but everyday I am more
dettached from my PC games and longing for a good home console,
but the PS3 price is really a no-no.

I guess Wii will do! 🙂

Any recommendations for the 1st games to purchase? Tenis? Golf?

It comes with a sports game that includes tennis, golf, baseball, boxing (that's is VERY funny to play with the Wii controller and quite a workout) and bowling. They are more for fun than for simulation but Zelda is quite a crack when you get past the opening set of tasks. You get to wave your controller around as a sword and it's surprising how responsive it is. It even recognizes forwards and backwards movement.

Make sure you get yourself a "Nanchuck" controller too. Not sure if one comes in the box or not but it's basically another small controller for your other hand so that both hands are used in boxing and you can fire a bow and arrow and stuff.

I bought one of those move a ball around a tilting maze games and the Wii is by far the best thing to play that on so maybe "Mercury" would be quite a blast. Better than on my PSP at least.

The Wii is awesome. I have Splinter Cell, Medal of Honor and Call of Duty. The sports games are a lot of fun too. I kind of liked that operation game (Trauma Center?) too.

Looking forward to Resident Evil and Guitar Hero.

Not terribly, I don't think. Sure, it may seem slightly gimmicky at first, but it's definitely a fun system.
