the first item on the news tonight was Arnold Schwarzenegger winning the Californian election? I could understand this earth shattering titbit of information appearing in the...backside end of the broadcast, perhaps right after the weather in the light hearted news section, but first up? A fender-bender in Alice Springs affects my life to a greater extent than the election of a movie star as governor of an American state.
😠Grrrrrrrrr.

I'm a little shy on replying to your posts lately.😛 But assuming you are not making a joke... and are just (rightly) disgusted...🙄
Perhaps because as nations go... California has the seventh largest economy in the world. And it is going under and when it goes, it will take a lot of smaller countries even deaper into debt and trouble. All so california politicians can buy their way into office with "free" this and "free" that to the electorate. At least, that's my guess as to why it might be news.

Originally posted by bbarrYes. I agree completely. The way the legislature destroyed the state is also very troubling. It goes back to my post of last week about our society being dumbed down by big business and corrupt news and media corporations, and the new generations of citizens actually believing that there can be "something for nothing". To quote my favorite space opera author... "TANSTAAFL"... Heinleins famous "There ain't no such thing as a free lunch".

I like your description of "Onold"... Meat Head and Meat-every-other body part!🙄

Originally posted by willatkinsThat would be wonderful. Reagan was one of the greatest. He managed to save California from the Demo's too. But Arnold is more of a Bill Clinton. Almost identical politically, philosophically and morally.

By the way, they said on CNBC that there is legislation before the House in Washington putting forth a change to the constitution that will allow people to run for the presidency after being a citizen for twenty years. Another feel-good, politically correct act that may come back to haunt us later.

Originally posted by bbarrTouche! Very French and very wrong. But don't worry. There is still hope. At last count there are still upward of 50 communist left wing "freedom fighter" groups killing and maiming every day to support the notion that we are evil. Too bad we supported one horribly nationalist group. Granted. Big mistake. The idea was to kill the current batch of killers who STILL HAVEN'T noticed that they lost in 1989. It was a total mess. No doubt.
Too bad noboby managed to save South America from Reagan.
I wonder if "Bin Laden" T-shirts are finally outselling "Che" shirts on the streets of Paris. I'll bet it is close.😉
Originally posted by willatkinsI do remember the day Reagan came into office. Bleak. It was miserable. What you have to realize is that the executive branch of government has never, and will never be in charge of the economy. All collection of money and spending are done by congress. And further... there is always about an 8 to 10 year time lag between any major tax hike/cut that congress imposes, and/or any POLICY change that the executive makes. That is because of the monolithic nature of the world economy. I feel totally comfortable saying that Carter inherited the Viet Nam economy. Remember the gas lines and 20% inflation rates under Carter. He was innocent of that, but got the blame anyway. Reagan inherited the Carter economy. Clinton inherited the Reagan economy. And Bush got Clintons and that is the way it will always be. It has to be because ALL BUSINESS DECISION takes years for their effects to be known. Just the way the world works. The thing that is amazing is that we fail to see the way the world economy works and the total lag that any monetary policy has between implementation and effect. There are probably some smart guys at the University of Chicago that understand it, but I don't. Just know it is so.

Economics is a bit more than money and money spending.
