A similar phenomenon is when an opponent who's clearly losing repeatedly offers a draw, or does so when there's still plenty of life in the game. While there aren't rules against this AFAIK, it's very unsporting, and I think Chris & Russ had to do something to stop people making draw offers without moves (and thus prolonging the match forever).
I would never resign a position if someone came out and said something like that. I think that is the height of arrogance to suggest that someone cannot recover given a suitable game plan, especially if you are closely matched.
If your opponent was sporting he/she should maybe have offered a draw, or resigned himself if he was that desperate to gain more free games.

Looked at the game....
If I were in his place on the board I would not expect you to resign let alone ask you. Very rude. There's plently of life left in you yet, he has by no means a dominant postion....

True, I never mentioned what game.
And belive me, I don't need advice on whether or not my position is salvagable or if I should resign.
The reason i staretd teh thread was because i was annoyed by my opponents comments.

I think it is entirely fair for you guys to comment on the game in progress as we are not discussing the moves / position / analysis etc.
I have never had any intention of resigning and will be playing on as long as possible just to annoy my opponent!

you - COULD - resign?
Gosh, I think that kind of stinks.
I mean, I'm all for THEM resigning if they want to but you should not.
Because, for me (as I am often down pieces) I would use my position of being in the deficit to do some real learning (and I've been lucky enough to play some great folks who have pointed out chess tips, ways to look at ...[text shortened]... tinks that they "asked" you to resign.
Let them resign if they want to play someone else.
