i was playing golf wiht a friends who hadn't been playing for long, and there were two golfers playing infront of us. each putted to near the hole, but missed. so they picked him up. they were what is known as "gimmies"-they're gonna get them, so what's the point in actually sticking them in the whole?
but-he complained-does that not defy the whole point of the game?!? to stick the ball in the hole?!?
does that not defy the whole point of the game-to checkmate your opponent?!?
golf can be defined by 3 different areas of play-the drive, fairway shizzle, and putting (the rought doesn't count, cause i never put my balls there...and other fairways DO NOT count as rough, o.k.?). each one subtly different, but a skill unto each one. you cannot master the game without mastering all of them.
chess-opening, middle game, endgame. to be a master, you must -erm- master all three areas.
and i'm tlaking crap, so i'll shut up too 🙂

...which is surely this: chess etiquette dictates that one resigns a hopeless position, out of respect for one's opponent.
I though this was a lost game when my opponent has a 2 pawn overlap in the endgame, but I stuck it out & I won. It's one of my proudest games. Game 100514
I would just like to say that an inexperienced player may not be able to tell if they are in a favourable position or not. I'm getting the hang of it (just about) but sometimes I'm still not sure if I should resign when a piece or two down.
My general rule is, if my opponent goes a piece or two up, I wait a number of moves to see if they are able to take advantage of the situation. If so then I will resign.
It can be very good practice for a player to defend while down on pieces. At the end of the day though it is a personal choice whether or not to resign. 😴
Judging by his odd diction, this sounds like a guy I had the great displeasure of playing recently. His first requests for my resignation were wheedling and gradually became extremely abusive. Eg, "F***ing idiot, you take three days to make a move!" (I'm away at work for three days at a time.) I complained to Chris and asked him if it was possible to cancel the game but he couldn't. I understand the difficulty of Chris's position. I was so angry with this guy that I ended up giving all my time to his game at the expense of all the others just to try to put manners on him. Of course I ended up having to face the ineveitable. But I made him time me out and at the end kept him waiting as long as possible for my moves. People should remember that there is a psychological benefit to losing a piece when your opponent relaxes thinking he's got a won game. I've often come back from losing positions when a better opponent drops his guard after a blunder.

And some people would say that they have once got out of paying a restaurant bill. At some stage the cost of injury to one's dignity is more than the benefit to one's wallet.
Does this make sense?

you're goint to make a new thread of anything what I'm going to say to you in the future? jeez men, I don't care. Make a 1000 threads if you like, it's one and the same. "If he leaves, he won't be missed" - like I would miss you guys.... how about learning to resign when you are really lost. and don't tell me something that "hey as long as I have a pawn, I have chances. you have NO chances against me, maybe against someone else but not me. I will make sure I will win for 100% sure. Even if kasparov would play here for you, it wouldn't help. have fun.
