By the way in answer to the original post - We don't need to feel superior to anyone. Because we are such a self confident nation we don't have to go in for the flag waving, 'patriotic' behaviour of others.
That said, I think self-mocking is no bad thing. There's no country on earth that doesn't have plenty to be embarassed about.
