As you all know, Chicago White Sox and Huston Astros are now the 2 greatest baseball teams in the entire world. Now, who will win the 7 game World Series to become the one and only greatest team in the entire world?
I'm going with Chicago in 6 games.

Just a point of order here. I am neither your friend nor an "Afrikander". Meanwhile, *our* troops are more involved in peace keeping missions in Africa than waging wars in other continents. As a non-aligned nation, we wisely kept out of an illegal and immoral campaign. The billions of dollars comment on HIV is simply untrue.
Mine was a relatively simp ...[text shortened]... dn't know, so just blustered.
Anyway, enjoy the series. This is a baseball thread, after all.
By the way, around 1903, the US was on the way to taking over building the Panama Canal from a "backwater" nation called France, and do so by overcoming the mosquitoes that sucked France dry....jeeesh, don't they teach you that in your schools?
Originally posted by PonderableMaybe some "feelings of inferiority", "jealousy", or plain disliking the "ugly American" could be avoided if you and the rest of the world just concentrated on trying to kick a ball into a net or trying to hit a ball with a boat paddle and let us Americans enjoy our "World Champion" sports teams as we have been for nearly 100 years.....'nuff said!
the problem is that denoting something as world series or world championship would for an ordinary not-US citizen imply participation from all over the world...
Maybe some very hot discussion could be avoided by a little bit of thought in choosing words??
Originally posted by squaccermanGood post. The reason abstinance from sex "could" work in Africa is because of the deluded belief that screrwing a virgin without a condom is seen my many HIV-infected men as a cure for HIV, thus infecting the poor teenage victim. Why give billions of dollars to purchase condoms if the idiots aren't going to use them. Now, why should it cost billions of dollars to "educate" these idiots anyway?...These countries could run factual information in the local newspapers informing the populace in anti-HIV precautions, announce it daily on radio and television, teach the children in schools, and here's a kicker that will have every activist on RHP after my hide: Forcefully, and humanely of course, quarantine everybody infected with HIV, treat the ones that will respond to treatment and let the ones, who won't receive treatment or are too far advanced in the disease to be effective, die. Problem solved...hard choice, but it would work.
You know, I can't even be bothered........or can I?
The US economy is significant, but it would be hard to say it rules the world if you look at the combined size of the emerging Asian markets, not to mention Europe. I agree that your influence is too strong, particularly through the World Bank (demanding privatisation of utility companies in the third ...[text shortened]... is the 'World Series' finals all that is on this time of year? I'd quite like to see a game.
Now, the Mexicans that are coming across the border are NOT skilled and are practically bankrupting most border hospitals from Texas to California. The 15,000,000 illegal aliens in the US ARE supporting the Mexican economy by pumping $16,000,000,000 annually to their families thereby supporting the Mexican economy, after oil revenues and tourism. I don't blame the average Mexican for wanting a better life; I'd do the same thing if it was the other way around. I blame my gov't because they want to keep wages depressed which hurts a lot of blue-collar American workers but fills the pockets of CEOs with billions of dollars. Not only are Mexicans crossing, but middle-easterners as well.....could these be the precursors to the next 9-11?
OK, enough politics...

Roger will start for the Astros, even at age 43 he's still got it.
If the Sox don't win game 1,
you Sox-in-6 people are gonna need new cystral balls.

Its the WORLD SERIES, its always going to be the WORLD SERIES. no other organized baseball team from the rest of the WORLD could beat any major league team since all the best players in the WORLD come to play in the major leagues. It has a wide international base, I can't even pronounce some of the international names still. The average American kid at that age is stuffing his "pie-hole" with junk food and watching "Sponge-Bob Spare Parts". Later, they become more interested soccer, of all things, and baseball falls to the wayside.....it must have great to be a kid during the Ruth-Gehrig era...
