Paul's thread really is quite brilliant - everyone should keep a note of it.

Thread 103080

Next time some Charlie comes on and ask's for a good book to
improve their play. Send them there.

I love the fact he has his books laid out in the same order as MCO.
(I bet he has colour coded his socks in his bedroom chest of drawers.) 😉

I also noticed in passing, Estrin's Two Knights Defence.

I have the blue hardback 1st published by CHESS in 1973/74

A great Chess book - the Two Knights is the most tactical of all openings.
Yes including the King's Gambit and the Latvian.

One of the mainlines has 4 sacs and counter sacs in it.
A study of this opening and you will see every trick on the chessboard in action.

In the blue hardback is a game tucked away in the notes.
(it's not in the Batsford edition). When you happen across it you
will think you have just found a gold nuggest in a pigsty.

I can remember gasping with disbelief when I first played it out
late one night in the 70's. I showed it to everybody for weeks.

Here is a position from the game.

Note every White piece is under attack - including a back rank mate.

It's quite a game.

Sit back and enjoy the ride people. Here is:
Sokolov - Ruzhnikov Corres. 1965/66

Black has been checkmated.

I enjoyed the kind words and game very much. 🙂
I am just now starting shelf 4 of 5 (only 3/5 of the way finished).
I have way too many opening books.
