Sorry but I really have to get something of my chest! I know I am a poor player but I love chess. I enter every banded tournament I can so I have a chance of winning (no luck yet though!). I've just progessed to a second round of a mini duel (October 1300-1325) and found I am playing two players, one over 1500 and one over 2100! Both had a similar rating previously so knew their true ability but then both had a sudden dip.

Thank you for listening to my rant, I feel better now! 🙂

It is a pity, though not illegal.
Personally I would not have been proud to have a banded 1350 tournament lightening on my left sidebar if I was a 2100-player or a 1700-player.
But people surely feel different about this.

Happy New Year, Bambee. 🙂

I guess, 1500 is within the range of a banded 1300-1325 tournament, considering that it is not the first round. However, 2100 is way to high. Maybe, you can PM this player and ask him/her politely to withdraw, and/or ask whether s/he is proud of winning such a tournament.

Good luck and Happy New Year!

Calls for a change in tournament entry qualifications when players drop 650 rating points to timeouts.

Thanks for the support. I know it's not illegal, just so demorallising (sp) when you get excited about progressing to round two to realise you have no chance, lol. Never mind i'll enjoy the other tournaments i'm in.

Have a great 2009 everyone.

Tournament 5371

As I saw the 2100 player resigned both games. A fair gesture, even if he shouldn't have entered in the first place.

Probably at least all three will go to the next round, then.

Yes, he has. A very nice gesture. I was just wondering if I sent him a thank you message it may seem insinsere. Perhaps I will try, I was quick enough to moan.

Fair on who?

The other players still have to beat him. If he had resigned all the games then that would be fair.

There are too many "dippers" who then join and spoil the lower rated tournaments.

Tournament 3659 Banded 1350/1400 with User 278925 who likes healthy competition!!!

Tournament 2394 Banded 1300/1400 with User 296643 an 1800/1900 player

The sooner a "fairplay system" is in place to stop these dippers the better.

in that case ,,,he's been moved timeout for 125 games at the end of 2007....that's why his rate dropped.....it's not exactly sandbaging

Being timed out is not on its own sandbagging, but the route back should be chosen with consideration.Tournaments with rating limits should be avoided. There are many open tournaments and open invites.

We now have the case that having resigned both games against bambee, the player in question went on to win both the games against j76.

This means that Bambee will advance if she gets a draw against j76 in either of their games.

j76 must with both the games for all three to advance.

Should all three advance we will have the same situation in the next round!

We now have the question - should bambee resign her games against j76 to make the round equitable?
