@yo-its-me saidIs this Suggestion aimed at all thumbs or at red thumbs only?
Would it be possible to restrict someone's use of thumbs in a 24 hour period without too much reprogramming of the system?
And, if so, would that be possible?
It would prevent trolling, encouraging other people to troll and make the thumbs mean more.

the green ones can be used to reinforce a slight about someone.

@yo-its-me saidNot sure it prevents trolling. It sometimes looks like the only way the community get to give feedback to a troll if they don't want to take what comes with replying directly. The people whining about all the thumbs they get are usually the ones doing the trolling. If you want to troll then live with all the red thumbs it attracts.

What about organised thumbing?
@yo-its-me saidI've not seen any evidence of this, beyond scattered attempts for humor.

Just because some posters SAY there are groups out gang-thumbing, this SHOULD be your clue that it is not happening. It's just yet another attempt at control. Some snowflakes trying to coerce thumbing as they want or dream for it to happen, rather than multiple users disliking or disagreeing with them. It's a Trump-like attempt at crowd control. Weak minds think there is "organised [sic] thumbing" because they can't believe they are that disliked or disagreed with, OR because someone else "said so", and so they believe it. You'd think that after the age of Trump, people would be more sensitive to propaganda. Apparently not.
@yo-its-me saidRead a lot of conspiracy theories by people objecting to thumbs, but I haven't seen any conspiracies. Why would people be bothered?

I've replied to trolls here rather than thumb. Based on that experiment I don't blame anonymous thumbers. At the height of that process I also got trolled elsewhere via the email address of a volunteer group, at exactly the same time as the stuff here (where it had never happened before). Maybe the anonymous thumbers knew how far it would go. Pathetic imo.
@ponderable saidSo have I. Back when we just had a single "recommend" option there were more posts worth reading. Thumbs are just a click-toy for people who can't be bothered typing a post.
In fact I found some interesting posts after looking at the "recommended" list
