@divegeester saidThe scriptures answer that, but that only matters if you care the what the Word says. Not caring what the Word says, you can make up whatever you want.@josephw said
There are Christians, and there are those that call themselves Christian
This was asserted in another thread by josephw.
If you think you are a “Christian”, as opposed to those who “call themselves Christians” how do you know and what are your differentiators?

@kellyjay saidBe that as it may.

Why don’t you tell us:
a) if you consider yourself a real Christian
b) on what basis you differentiate yourself from those who “call themselves Christian”
@divegeester saidA Christian is a name for a member of the Christian church, and It really means nothing.@josephw said

Followers of Christ means something. Its those who walk as Jesus did and keep his commandments.

You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.
Romans 8:10
But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
2 Corinthians 13:5
Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test!
It isn't the things we do, it isn't the things we say, it is are we Christ's or not, abiding in Him, believing in Him, our salvation is because of Him, not because of anything we can bring to the table.

@kellyjay saidThanks KellyJay, but I am fully aware of what scripture says.

My questions to you I repeat:
a) do you consider yourself a real Christian
b) if so, then on what basis you differentiate yourself from those who “call themselves Christian”
@divegeester saidI am a Christian because of Jesus Christ, and if anyone is calling themselves Christian for any other reason, they are eternally mistaken.
Thanks KellyJay, but I am fully aware of what scripture says.

@kellyjay saidJesus was a Jew, and there is not the slightest indication in the Synoptic Gospels that he thought of himself as founding a new religion distinct from Judaism. The 'new' religion called "Christianity" was invented by someone else, after Jesus died.

@moonbus saidTrue prophets don't seek after personal gain through a "cult of personality" process either.

Moses didn't think he was creating a "new Judaism" religion either, but that is exactly what happened. He codified what it meant to be a Jew, and the Levites and the rabbis took it from there. Jesus was not trying to make a religion to be named after him, but he codified it through his teachings nevertheless, for Jew and Gentile both, and the Church, led by Peter, took it from there.
@kellyjay said“I am a Christian because of Jesus Christ”, the same reason as you have stated.
Why do you call yourself a Christian?
@suzianne saidSo, a Christian is a member of a church whose bishop can trace his lineage back to one of the Apostles.

@moonbus saidI said nothing about lineage, but my personal definition of a Christian is one who follows Christ, not one who only says they follow Him.
So, a Christian is a member of a church whose bishop can trace his lineage back to one of the Apostles.
And that's why I've also said more than once that Pascal's Wager is complete nonsense.
