Im need some serious help. I've become completely addicted to buying chess books. The trouble is i never get to finish them and some are barely even started.
when i'm not on here, i'm browsing Amazon for hours at a time looking for some miracle working book that's probably never even been written. I read a couple of good reviews on a title then get a real buzz out of clicking the place order button. Many days are spent waiting in anticipation for the work of art to drop through my letter box.
Then.... I read 1 or 2 chapters and generally unsatisfied, put it away and get back on to Amazon where the cycle is repeated.
somebody please tell me to stop or i'm going to die in a sea of unread chess literature.
Somebody please tell me there isn't any book that will add hundreds of points to my rating.
HELP!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!
anybody have a similar problem?
Oh and erm.... Can anybody recommend a really good chess book!

I intend purchasing acopy simply because of the hype surrounding it and th g talked about after 70 years but would like to hear an opinion from anybody whose read it.
They say that something like 99% of chess GM has read that book and I believe it. If you can just read the preface by Seirawan on the latest edition. It does more justice and is much more informed on the subject than I am. But I'll post a game where I applied one of the concepts on that book. Just let me find it and on my edit you'll see it.

Been there. Had about 300 and actually read game collections of Botvinnik & Reshevsky, a middle game book by Pachman, one endgame book and 3-4 Informants were well-used. Also had a few hundred issues of British Chess Magazine, Chess Review & Chess Life. Eventually donated them to a chess club. Today I own about 6 or 8 (unread, of course) and Chess Life gets a quick glance before it goes in the trash. I think it’s a combination of good intentions and an addiction to the smell of new books.

If you enjoy chess books, buy 'em. You could do a lot worse with your money. If you're married, your wife will tell you you're wasting your money (actually she thinks you're wasting her money). Point out the hundred pairs of shoes in her closet, or pocketbooks or makeup. I've got about 200 i've collected over the years, most of which i haven't read through. Of course they are no substitute for playing, if you want to increase your strength, just as a body builder actually has to lift the weights. But every bodybuilder i've met reads bodybuilding magazines for ideas and fun. Think of it this way: you're supporting chessplayers who are no longer active and have no other skills other than chess.
