I'm sure even that would be frowned upon.

Elevator
An Amish boy and his father were visiting a mall. They were amazed by almost everything they saw, but especially by two shiny, silver walls that could move apart and back together again. The boy asked his father, "What is this, Father?" The father answered, "Son, I have never seen anything like this in my life. I don't know what it is."
While the boy and his father were watching, wide-eyed, an old lady in a wheelchair rolled up to the moving walls and pressed a button. The walls opened and the lady rolled between them into a small room. The walls closed and the boy and his father watched small circles of lights with numbers above the walls light up. They continued to watch the circles light up in the reverse direction. The walls opened up again and a beautiful 24 year-old woman stepped out.

The father said to his son, "Go get your mother!"

if the amish were a more agressive bunch aiming at global domination and inclined towards religio-facism like some others,
i doubt that people would be making jokes about them.
i guess if youre considered "safe" or inconsequential then you're a soft target. ps - anyone know why their town is called intercourse ??

You left out quite a few, and they are not the largest

But you are correct, they are Amish infested towns, less than 30 minutes from me. Beautiful country land, it makes for a great drive on a weekend afternoon.

Who's making jokes? I love these people. I live around them.

I'm not sure, but i think intercourse was originally called Intersection or someyhing like that, but a tavern owner hung a sign out calling his bar Intercourse and it became the name of the town. That part of PA is a beautyful place to visit, just watch out for the horse poop.

Good point! After all, all the Indians wanted was to be left alone!!! The Amish are extremely good people who DO use coersion and force on their children to establish them in the Amish community. I guarantee you our wonderful federal government will stop at NOTHING in their efforts to force the Amish to allow their children to be exposed to the Wickedness of American life! All in the name of enforcing the children's right to live in any way they might want, whether or not it is "good" for them by the community standards of their town or the majority of the people in them!

From the 1800's on to the 1930's, the word intercourse was used almost exclusively to mean talking among a group of like-minded peoples! Another common definition of the word back then was the orderly buying and selling of goods or services within a closed group such as a co-op!! I believe the use of intercourse to mean a sexual act didn't become popular in English until the 1960's and even then was almost ALWAYS preceeded by the word Sexual! As in SEXUAL INTERCOURSE, to differentiiate it from the common meaning which was still the original definition!! I think the New Webster's zcollegiate Dictionary, Revised in 1965, had definition #4 as Sexual Intercouse, still using the adjective.
