I'm at a loss to figure out how someone who can't
even play in tournaments could declare himself to
be such an authority on them.

I suspect that the real reason some men hate women is because those individuals were raised in an environment where their mother was abused and dominated by their father. Put this environment together with a male who has strong sexual urges but finds women turn him down for sex - and a monster is created. 😲
This stuff goes pretty deep... from the abuser ...[text shortened]... feels the need to beat women at chess. All varying degrees of the male's psychological illness.
Must you generalize? We're not all suffering from this illness you describe.

Most people here are more honest (or less gender-confused?) than you.

LMAO...have you been taking psychology lessons from Arrakis??
"It's pointless to hold a women-only tournament without any real attempt to verify the gender of the participants."
This makes no sense to a man like me, who wouldn't dream of entering a tournament for women.
I'm not a woman, you see.

Maybe not in the real world but surely on the web where people hide and lies about their proper identity.
The fitting example is about the GrandContinent tournaments.
People were changing their nationality flag just to enter the Oceania or SouthAmerica event where they had more chances of reaching the final round and it really happened when a spanish guy, DigitGus, won the event reserved to Oceanian players : Tournament 200.
Here the statement of BigDogg makes perfect sense as we can say that "It's pointless to hold a Oceania only tournament without any real attempt to verify the nationality of the participants."
The same can be said for any tournament where the conditions for entering it can easily be avoided from people who are so thirsty about a tourny victory that they'd even pass as another person in order to win.
Originally posted by dottewellI wouldn't enter a women's tournament either, but only someone who is naive or completely lacks imagination would rule out the possibility of other men entering. Not everyone has a sense of honor, you know.

If quite a few men entered the tournaments here, I guess it just shows we have a disproportionately large number of idiots and sheep. I don't think its naive or completely lacking in imagination to think most normal men wouldn't enter a tournament for women, even if the only thing stopping them was a sense of honour.
Originally posted by dottewellAll that's needed to wreck this tournament is a small minority of the site membership. I'm not sure why you continue to focus on the majority.

I believe the majority of people are decent. The majority of people who pay to support this site wish to respect it. Russ asked men to withdraw from the tournament.
Sadly, our minority of idiots seems to be larger than that in the general population. I do believe ALL of them would have withdrawn, without coercion, if things hadn't decended into name calling and posturing. That was a shame. But the concept is workable.
Originally posted by dottewellYou also keep forgetting about the players who have never stated their gender. I wonder how many of them are male?

It's workable only if you strap on a pair of blinders.

Anyone who enters a "2006 Ladies Tournament" has stated their gender.
Nothings perfect, just check the Tourney wins by cheaters kicked off the
site. This tournament is underway, if a Lady wins she will be the 2006
Ladies Tournament Champion (for that band).

The difference between computer cheats and male entrants in the women's tourney is that the site actually has some method for expelling the computer cheats. Even still, the site will pay a price for the imperfection of the system when some players leave because they're tired of losing to computers. Others stay in the tournament, but resign games to suspected cheats without making a move, thus throwing the whole section out of balance. At least the effort in banning some cheats will show that the site owners are serious about getting rid of them. The point is that the organizer has the majority of the burden of ensuring a quality tournament experience.
For the women's tourney, the site has no way to stop or even know about 'silent males' who enter. Zero-enforcement is a far cry from 'not perfect'.
