I'm currently paying another alekhine. I don't get the chance to play it much here, and we always seem to veer off book early. Here is the latest entry 10 moves so far and still a classic book alekhine's defense, modern variation. Please do not comment on the game yet as it is still ongoing. I only put it here for the people who keep asking about this quirky game/defense to follow along.
Game 1284575
Textbook...
My first game with Alekhine's which I played as a change from my usual e5. Most of it went to book with White reacting aggressively and most of my moves forced. It felt pretty hairy at times - my King's exposed, the advanced White pawn a threat, though it was under control, and the light squared bishop hovering - so I wouldn't play it against a high ranked opponent. White blundered at the end when he still had good attacking opportunities. Generally, it seems you have to withstand the storm after which you have good counter-attacking opportunities because both defensive positions are in tatters.

I love to play this opening with black.
Unfortunately, many of my oponents play B1-C3 as a reply. And since I do not line Vienna defense with black, I need an alternative to 2. e7-e5.
I often play D6, meaning a transition to Pirc.
Yep, Alekhine is OK, we should have a tournament with i.e. mandatory the first 5 moves from i.e. the Alehine 4 pawn variation and take it from there. Is that a possibility within this site?
How about 2...d5 in response to 2.Nc3?
Thematic tournaments are possible, check out Tournament 304.
Originally posted by Svin1Maybe they'll have a modern variation one day. I guess someone just wrote a new alekhine's book because I'm playing yet another one. This one is with AthousandYoung again.

Originally posted by AThousandYoungI'm still the same player, and quite honestly I was underrated before. But remember I can still blunder as I did in our second game, where I tossd the rook. In fact I blundered just the other day.
I'm ascared of playing Alekhine's vs you. We're only on the 6th move and I am getting worried. Plus, you've gone up like 200-400 points or something since last time and I haven't gone up much.
You have'nt gone up as fast as I have because you play way slower. If I remember correctly I struggled for that first win against you.

I suppose, philosophically, the Alekhine's Defence shares the same "come and get some" ideology as the KID. In the game I posted (incidentally, my only Alekhine's on this site!) I relied on simple psychology - my opponent was known to be a hyper-aggressive player (he plays the KG as White), so I decided to sit tight and wait till he over-extended himself/blundered.
You forgot about this game though. 😉
Although probably doesn't count anyway because I didn't do all that great.
