Originally posted by chessisvanityThat has been my plan (learn one for white, learn responses for 1. e4 and 1. d4 as black), but I have come to realize not everyone plays 1. e4 and 1. d4 ... 🙁
anyone think it is better to cover(study) all the openings and play many of them .....or just focus on one for white and 2 defenses for black?
I've met lots of unusual (not as common) openings lately, like 1. Nf3, 1. d3, 1. e3, and even 1. b3 and 1. g3...

Originally posted by chessisvanityI would and am doing what most suggest at our rating. Study tactics and concentrate on not hanging pieces. Openings come later. I don't know about you but I tend to move too fast even in CC. With the high game load you have you might consider halving it and taking twice the time for each move.

yep...yer right. i am studying tactics and not studying openings right now.
i was just asking.
Chess Van if you want to have something against e4. and d4 as black that is similar you can always play 1...d6
You will either get a pirc/KID position. They are similar even though the KID has less theory than the Pirc. If you play the Pirc OTB you need to have the austrian and 4.Be3 lines down.
Good Luck.

I think I may learn 1...e5. I have just been scared that the people I play OTB will know long lines. However, each move seems to have a reason and if I think it through I maybe able to survive. I have a book by Nigel Davies that is play 1. e4 1...e5! He says that in the intro once he gave up the modern and learned to play the opening his game improved. I guess learning the black side of e4 could help me as white also.

i wish there was a system black could play regardless of what white opens with...
