I am just now halfway through "Bobby Fischer Goes to War," which is all about the Spassky and Fischer match. If the book is any indication, there should be more than enough dramatic material to work with for a film.

Casting is underway for a movie based on the 1972 World Championship.
They would have to have quite a few good chess advisors, and maybe do a lot of research.
If it comes across contived, or corny, you lose the few non-chess players that would go to see it, and only chess players will see it out of curiosity.
I kinda liked the lucien defence, but most chess players who i talked too panned it. That was the last chess movie i can think of, via big budget cinema.
Bobby is a character all by himself, Lets see how they portray him!
There is a 2 hours doc, broadcast on the History Channel, entitled "Game over: Kasparov challenges the Machine". It's pretty interesting, it tells about Garry's life and conveys the idea that IBM cheated while playing those matches, supporting his machine with the advice of some Grand Masters hidden in the rooms nearby!
