If you're confused that would be for you to work out for yourself.
Are you saying thats what you do,"reading moves out of a book"?
And what do you mean by "someone I consider" to be, how would I know? unless they state it beforehand.....
"Reading moves out of a book" is ethically the same as "copying moves out of a database", which you condemned as "pathetic". You then stated that you would play a game with a known database user.

That is all beside the point which was; why not let people know one way or the other?
It is not compulsory to use them.
It is not disallowed.
Some players do.
Some don't.
Question.
What good reason is there not to let your opponent know one way or the other?
Originally posted by Dr StrangeloveBecause its redundant information.

Why do you want to know so bad anyway? It seems to me like you'd probably suffer a mental block against a db user. Just play the board.

DS:"My understanding of database usage is where thousands, or even millions of past games are stored in a device [computer] which can be fairly consulted when a game is over to see if other options had been available and to keep a record. If they are consulted during a game other moves can also be seen which may or may not have been thought of. The "copying" of these moves is what I find pointless. "

It seems reasonable enough to me to PREFER to know. more reasonable than the people who prefer to hide their use of them.
And before I get called something new, I'm not directing this at anyone in particular.
edit, I believe I have played against d/b users and yes I do just play the board.....no mental block yet..

Originally posted by Natural ScienceYes, I want to know if they do. Infact lets go as far as having them tell us if they use any kind of chess board, including OTB boards. I use the analyse board on here, but sometimes I set up the position on my OTB board and play it out for my tough games.

I would be more worried about people using the analyse board and chess board to play the position out instead of using a db.

"Did you use the analyze board on that move? ... How about that one?"
Originally posted by Dr StrangeloveYes I use a db/ books and I will continue doing so. If someone asks me then, I say I use them. I assume everyone used db when i'm playing them.
Not presently,
No.
and
No.
And you?
What do you think about the analyse board feature?
Wouldn't you like to know if they use that during the game or use a real board during the game?
