Well you need a king as well, but yes, it is possible.

Well you will always have the king on the board whatever so really that question is futile.

Yes, but you can also checkmate with just the king and rook, so you don't even need the knight. 🙂

Not really, just need to move the rook close to the other side to keep the king to that edge. Use the rook and the king to push the opponent's king back.

A recent example:

Game 1594528

EDIT: Thinking about it, don't think there is any way of checkmating with just the Rook and Knight alone.

it would be nearly impossible to get the king in that position

These are actual GM games. Not on RHP!

EDIT: Oops, no they aren't. They are played on ICC by Wulebgr (or other sites). Edited several times, had a hard day...sigh. 😳

Print it and play over the board (or paste into ChessBase Light). That way you'll see how badly I can play chess!

Last night I had the opportunity to get a RHP game in my history that demonstrates checkmate with two bishops. Alas, I was confident that my opponent coud pull it off, so I resigned. Here's the link: Game 1571499.

Blitz is different. If my opponent is under 20 seconds, I often won't resign.
